High Net Worth & Trust Tax Accountant
Reports to: Team shareholder(s)

Position Overview:
This role plays a key role in providing expert tax services focused on trust and estate planning, as well as high net worth individual tax matters. This position involves managing and performing complex tax engagements, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax regulations, and offering specialized advice in estate and trust taxation. This role involves collaborating with Shareholders and clients, developing tailored strategies for tax planning and compliance.
Essential Functions:
Specialized Tax Expertise: Handle a wide range of tax assignments with a focus on trust and estate taxation, including the preparation and review of complex tax forms such as:
Form 1041: U.S. Income Tax Return for Estates and Trusts
Form 706: U.S. Estate (and Generation-Skipping Transfer) Tax Return
Form 709: U.S. Gift (and Generation-Skipping Transfer) Tax Return
Form 8971: Information Regarding Beneficiaries Acquiring Property from a Decedent
Form 3520: Annual Return To Report Transactions With Foreign Trusts and Receipt of Certain Foreign Gifts
Form 3520-A: Annual Information Return of Foreign Trust With a U.S. Owner
Form 990-PF: Return of Private Foundation (if applicable)
Form 5227: Split-Interest Trust Information Return
Client Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with high net worth clients, providing personalized tax planning and compliance services. Understand and address the unique tax needs of trust and estate clients.
Engagement Management: Lead or participate in tax engagements related to trusts and estates, ensuring that all work is completed in compliance with the latest tax laws and Firm standards.
Technical Leadership: Provide expertise and guidance on trust, estate, and high net worth individual tax matters to clients and team members. Stay updated on current tax legislation affecting these areas.
Problem Solving: Identify and address potential issues in engagements, particularly those involving complex trust and estate taxation, and collaborate with Shareholders and clients to develop effective solutions.
Quality Assurance: Ensure the accuracy and compliance of financial statements, tax returns, and other client deliverables related to estate and trust engagements.
Required Experience and Skills:
Specialization in Estate and Trust Taxation: Significant experience in trust, estate, and high net worth individual tax matters, including planning, compliance, and research, with a strong understanding of the associated tax forms.
Advanced Knowledge of Tax Law: Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state tax laws affecting trusts, estates, and high net worth individuals, including fiduciary income tax, gift tax, and estate tax regulations.
Client Service Orientation: Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with high net worth clients and provide customized tax planning and advisory services.
Critical Thinking and Decision-Making: Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply tax law to complex trust and estate planning scenarios.
Required Education: Bachelor’s in Accounting or a related field, with specialized coursework or certifications in estate and trust taxation preferred.
License/Certification: CPA highly preferred; additional certifications in Estate Planning (such as CPA/PFS, AEP, or CFP) preferred.
Working Requirements:
Occasional travel for meeting with clients or to attend seminars or staff meeting using a personal vehicle is likely.
Out-of-town travel with overnight stay is possible.
Occasional overtime is expected throughout the year and heavy overtime is required from January through April.
