    This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide services outlined below:

    International SOS is looking for an individual who is an experienced histology technician to process and prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by performing tasks such as embedding, sectioning, and staining specimens. This role is essential for assisting pathologists in diagnosing diseases and guiding patient treatment decisions based on the analysis of tissue characteristics.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Responsible for gross tissue specimens, accessioning them into the computer system, embedding, cutting, staining and cover-slipping tissue.
    • Prepare special stains for tissue per request of pathologists.
    • Assists the pathologists in the cutting of surgical, frozen sections, and possibly autopsies.
    • Process specimens using equipment, instruments, or techniques to prepare them for specific analysis, controls physical conditions.
    • Responds to time factor to ensure that the physiological state-of-the-art specimen is maintained.
    • Serve as the back-up morgue assistant in the absence of the contract diener. This includes basic assistance of the pathologist during autopsies to include, but not limited to, identification, set up, general assistance, body closure, and clean up.
    • Positively identifies patients prior to sample collection and samples prior to testing or aliquoting.
    • Safeguards electronic and paper patient information.
    • Independently tests, evaluates, documents, and reports patient testing and Quality Control (QC); identifies, documents, and resolves any collection, processing, testing or reporting issues.

    • Assures patient-centered care and provides service in a manner that is professional and will avoid complaints from all stakeholders and customers.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Basic Requirements/Certifications:

    • Must possess three years of recent histology and cytology experience
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

    Education Required:

    • Bachelor's degree is histotechnology or related field.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
    • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
    • May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.

    Other Special Qualifications:

    • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
    • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
    • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.
