History & Civics at Naples Classical Academy:
Position
NCA is seeking experienced middle and high school History & Civics Teachers. The ideal candidates will have knowledge of History, strong collaboration skills, and a demonstrated commitment to the classical approach based on traditions, critical thinking, research skills, and open ended discussion . The teacher should be able to teach at required grade and specific subject level, use socratic method to encourage students to debate history, teach students to differentiate between fact and opinion, help students develop evidence-based arguments and take a stand on historical events and figures.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Create, plan and deliver lesson plans that reflect the Hillsdale curriculum and pedagogy. Implement engaging and educational lesson plans that cover historical events, themes, and concepts.
Uphold the mission and values of NCA
Deliver history lessons using a variety of teaching methods, such as lectures, discussions, group work, and hands-on activities.
Use primary and secondary sources, historical documents, and artifacts to enrich the learning experience.
Encourage critical thinking and analysis by prompting students to evaluate historical events and perspectives.
Create and administer assessments, including tests, quizzes, essays, and projects, to measure student understanding and progress.
Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments and assessments. Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.
Establish and maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning. Implement effective classroom management strategies to promote a productive learning atmosphere.
Use engaging teaching techniques to make history relevant and interesting to students.
Encourage student participation through discussions, debates, and collaborative projects.
Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the development of the history curriculum.
Prepare and submit necessary reports, grades, and documentation in a timely manner.
Manage classroom resources and ensure their proper use and maintenance.
Participate in school meetings and professional development opportunities.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Required- Bachelor Degree from accredited college or university (or graduating with a degree before the start of the new school year.)
Preferred- Prior Teaching Experience
Preferred- Possession of a Florida Educator Certification in corresponding subject area or Statement of Status of Eligibility showing eligible status in such subject area or desire to do so within 2 years of employment (NCA can provide information on obtaining the necessary cert for eligible candidates.)
Preferred- Degree in subject or related discipline
