    Earth View is looking for a Horizontal Directional Drill Steering Technician to join our team. The HDD Steering Technician designs and oversees the installation of underground utilities and pipelines using trenchless techniques, ensuring accurate drilling paths and project success while adhering to safety and quality standards.

    Position Requirements

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Evaluate project feasibility including site conditions, obstacles, and regulatory requirements.

    • Use Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) to develop as-drilled proposals, job site layouts, and other project deliverables.

    • Develop and communicate optimal drilling paths taking into account environmental factors, existing utilities, and project constraints.

    • Create detailed bore plans, including entry and exit points, angles, and depths.

    • Maintain HDD calculation sheets, process and plot tracking position in real-time.

    • Conduct site surveys and geotechnical investigations to determine soil conditions and potential hazards.

    • Obtain necessary permits and approvals from relevant authorities.

    • Plan the drilling site, including workspace layout and access points; collaborate with drilling crew during equipment set up and site preparation.

    • Interpret survey data, blueprints, and project plans to guide drilling operations effectively.

    • Provide technical guidance and support to the drilling crew during the drilling process.

    • Monitor drilling parameters, including pressure, torque, and alignment, to maintain accuracy and prevent deviations.

    • Identify and resolve issues that arise during the drilling process.

    • Implement quality control measures to ensure the integrity of the installation.

    • Generate mud reports, drill logs, and other project-specific data as required.

    • Adhere to all industry safety regulations, Company policies, and environmental guidelines during operations.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or similar field preferred.

    • 5+ years' experience with high profile HDD projects such as pilot bore intersects, mud motor and jet assembly applications required; a technical background in civil projects is preferred.

    • Proficiency with Microsoft O365 suite; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel required.

    • Ability to interpret technical project documents such as bore samples, soil mechanics, and bore profiles.

    • Advanced technical knowledge of the HDD industry and steering applications; capable of recommending the best application for each project.

    • Advanced knowledge in wireline (magnetic) and gyro module (non-magnetic) tracking for drill assembly position and heading.

    • Advanced skills in HDD Steering Software for Wireline Tracking, both AC (Paratrack) and DC (TrueGyde).

    • Advanced skills in Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) including key functions such as Geolocation tools, scaling and importing client PDFs, aligning drawings to world coordinate systems, importing survey points and others.

    • Advanced knowledge in land surveying using Total Station, GPS (RTK and VRS). Importing and manipulating survey data; capable of surveying equipment layout and alignment, limits of ROW, limits of disturbance and other project constraints; ability to work with and convert coordinate systems.

    • Advanced analytical skills including advanced knowledge of trigonometric functions applicable to calculating bend radius, build per drill joint, combined radius calculations, heading/bearing, and others.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with drill crews.

    • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing project conditions.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and upper management regarding project progress and particulars.

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to stand, walk, or sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, or stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

    • Must be able to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

    • Work is primarily performed outdoors in variable weather and lighting conditions, including extreme heat and humidity.

    • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

    • This position requires travel and extended stays at job locations.
