Take receipt of sample coolers and log into the laboratory software system. Responsible for all Chain of Custody procedures associated with the receipt of samples. Be available for client calls to scope projects or answer questions about analyses.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Receive laboratory samples and enter samples into laboratory network.
- Respond to calls from clients and scope projects or answer questions about analyses.
- Recommend testing based on client requests/problems.
- Dispose of samples and document chain-of-custody reports.
- Interface with clients shipping or delivering samples for analysis.
- Cross-train in analytical testing allowing for growth within the laboratory.

- Reports to and receives direct supervision from the Laboratory Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
INTERFACE REQUIRED:
- Interfaces with all laboratory staff, corporate administrative staff, vendors and clients.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to normal laboratory conditions including humidity, cool and/or warm temperatures. The employee may be exposed to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee may be exposed to environmental hazards including low-level hazardous and radioactive material and waste.
Required Skills
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Basic knowledge and understanding of chemical hazards and safety equipment used in laboratory.
- Basic understanding of good laboratory practices.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong computer skills (MS Excel and database use)
- Ability to accurately document and maintain records.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with laboratory and other personnel
- Ability to interact with customers professionally needed. Technician should communicate clearly and establish working relationships with customers
Required Experience
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
High school diploma or equivalent with college-level Chemistry or Biology coursework. Prefer BS degree in a science-related field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Ability to pass random drug screens.
- Must be available for standby assignments and work scheduled off-hours and emergency overtime as required.
- Must occasionally be available for additional work hours.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
