Job Description:
A private family in Boston area seeks an experienced and take-charge House Manager / Chef to assist with the daily cooking, management and maintenance of a secondary residence. This is a potential Live-in position, consisting of a Thursday – Monday workweek with overriding flexibility for additional days and hours upon request. The ideal candidate will have prior experience maintaining high-net-worth properties and maintain a “succeed at all costs” mentality.
In addition, this candidate will be responsible for scheduling and overseeing vendors and service providers and should be comfortable providing organization and inventory management throughout the home. This House Manager must possess exceptional communication skills, a professional demeanor, and demonstrate good judgement and emotional intelligence while contributing to the congenial atmosphere of the home. The ideal candidate will be solution-oriented, exceptionally resourceful and quick-thinking, and have a proven track record of managing a busy household efficiently. The successful candidate will have a hands-on approach, operate with common sense, and demonstrate a high-level of proficiency in their work. Additionally, this Family Assistant must work well both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative with a positive “can do” attitude and a “no job is too big or too small” mentality
Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Manage busy calendars and scheduling
- Oversee all elements of hospitality, food and beverage service within the residence on a daily basis
- Prepare meals for principal upon request
- Manage, organize, and act as point person on various in-home projects and special events
- Plan and oversee events and gatherings, managing logistics and ensuring seamless coordination
- Provide oversight for vendors and onsite service providers
- Demonstrate a hands-on approach to daily house maintenance; ability to perform routine home repairs
- Manage all deliveries, renovation projects and general maintenance of the residence
- Serve as primary contact to service providers (electrician, plumber, etc.)
- Running errands and completing additional special projects and requests as needed
- Working alongside team of household staff
- Maintaining vendor and contractor relationships
- Additional House Manager / Chef-related tasks and responsibilities as needed and upon request
Requirements:
- Strong command of English language; superior communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent references required from both current and previous employers
- Minimum 5+ years related experience working in a similar role for a private home or family
- Cooking skills; ability to prepare fresh meals upon request
- Exceptional organization skills and multitask management
- Experience with event planning, logistics coordination, implementation and oversight
- Incredibly “hands-on” and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong knowledge in all areas of property maintenance and management including complex smart home systems (i.e. lighting, heating and cooling, security, etc.)
- Professional in both mindset and manor; Demonstrate high emotional intelligence and the ability to “read a room”
- Proficient computer skills
- Flexibility in scheduling with willingness to work long hours and overtime as needed
- Must have experience working in high stress, fast-paced environments where the utmost discretion and confidentiality are required
