The Housing Counselor will work to build healthy communities and expand homeownership opportunities and retention for low and moderate income households. This position’s role is to provide aspiring homebuyers with the skills, knowledge and information to buy and maintain a home. This is done by bringing people into the program through outreach and marketing events, educating people about credit and managing their finances, and working with their financial position to prepares for a loan application, loan modification, workout or other appropriate solution and in doing so exercising their best judgment and discretion in advising the client about possible course of action consistent with the goals and objectives of the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Prior experience with processing of homebuyers or mortgage paperwork; background in finance, banking, mortgage lending, or real estate preferred
Proficiency with MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook
Strong analytical and communication skills, both orally and in writing
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with the public
Ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions based upon the analysis of individual unique factors
Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality
Ability to work with minimal supervision and direction
Ability to prepare communications, such as memos, emails, reports and other correspondence
Demonstrates cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of adults with multiple challenges
Ability to complete HUD training and obtain certification within 90 days of hire
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Non-profit experience strongly preferred
Knowledge of Fair Housing Act and applicable laws
Bi-lingual/Multi-lingual is a plus
