TITLE: Human Resources Generalist
Reports to: Senior Director of Human Resources
Classification/FLSA Status: Full Time, Exempt
LOCATION: Jacksonville, FL (Hybrid)
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Human Resources Generalist to join our HR team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting payroll and benefits administration, being a “super user” and expert in our HRIS, as well as assisting with recruitment efforts. The ideal candidate will have a passion for HR, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to learn and grow in the field.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Payroll & Benefits Administration
Assist in the processing of bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
Maintain and update employee records in payroll and benefits systems.
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and deductions.
Support the administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave policies.
Assist in the preparation of benefit open enrollment materials and communications.
Coordinate with external vendors and benefit providers for claims, coverage issues, and updates.
Ensure the accurate coordination and execution of the Council’s leave policies including Short Term Disability and FMLA.
HRIS Support
Become a subject matter expert in the Council’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
Attend training and read educational materials to learn new functionality in the system.
Support the rollout of new functionality such as performance, applicant tracking, and expense reimbursement.
Provide ongoing training for managers and staff to ensure the system is utilized correctly and consistently.
Recruitment Support
Assist with recruitment efforts, including posting job openings, screening resumes, and scheduling interviews.
Maintain applicant tracking systems and ensure timely communication with candidates.
Conduct initial phone screenings and gather candidate information.
Help coordinate job fairs, recruitment events, and outreach initiatives.
Support the onboarding process for new hires, including preparing offer letters and completing required documentation.
Attend new-hire onboarding sessions to give new employees pertinent payroll and benefits information.
General HR Support
Assist with maintaining employee files and HR records, ensuring compliance with legal and company requirements.
Prepare HR reports as needed, such as turnover, headcount, and payroll summaries.
Assist with employee relations matters by addressing routine inquiries and escalating more complex issues to the Senior Director of Human Resources.
Support other HR projects and tasks as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum of 3 years of experience in an HR role with exposure to payroll and benefits administration.
Strong understanding of HR practices and employment laws.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and extensive familiarity with HR software/systems (such as Paylocity, ADP, or similar).
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Positive attitude, team-oriented, and eager to learn.

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Operate office equipment manually.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds at times.
