TheHR Payroll Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring our employees are paidaccurately and on time. In this position, you’ll take primary ownership ofmanaging in-house, full-cycle bi-weekly payroll in a dynamic, unionenvironment.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
Payroll Processing
- Process bi-weekly payroll for union and non-union employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable wage and labor legislation.
- Partner with the Finance department to ensure all payroll funding of necessary federal, state, and local tax payments are processed.
- Ensure prevailing wage reporting and compliance, adhering to industry standards
- Generate bi-weekly payroll reporting for various internal and external stakeholders, maintaining the highest level of integrity and accuracy.
- Conduct payroll-related training sessions for new field leaders, empowering them with essential knowledge.
HRIS & Benefits Administration
- Responsible for all data workflow creation and maintenance within related systems to ensure efficient data tracking and payroll efficiency.
- Conduct routine audits, research, and resolve data integrity issues, and run requested reports.
- Help troubleshoot timekeeping and payroll platforms issues as they arise.
Department Coordination
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in payroll, benefits, and employment law.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations about payroll and benefit administration.
- Help drive the success of departmental initiatives through, project management, training, and institutional communication for assigned scope.
- Proactively identify departmental opportunities and collaborate with team members to improve HR initiatives, services, and systems.
- Work semi-independently and be responsible for own work under general supervision.
WHAT WE NEED IN YOU
- Minimum of 2 years experience working in payroll processing function is required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
- Extensive experience with HRIS/Payroll systems a must, ADP experience preferred.
- Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook with a strong capability in Excel preferred.
- Excellent communication skills across all mediums working effectively with all levels of management and staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with judgment, delicacy, and diplomacy.
- Strong strategic problem-solving orientation, relationship-building, negotiation skills, and business acumen.
- Demonstrate high professionalism with excellent time management skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize competing objectives.
- Must actively support and promote a diverse and inclusive work environment.
- Requires the ability to commute to the Minneapolis campus a minimum of 3 days a week.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS This position is considered full-time (35 hours per week), non-exempt. As a non-exempt position, it is eligible for overtime pay. The compensation for this role is $27.50 - $30.25 hourly. The Walker offers a wide range of benefits for both part-time and full-time employees.
