Responsibilities:
We're not going to lie -- this job is hard work, but so incredibly rewarding! When you hear contented purrs, see wagging tails, and watch folks walk out the door with their new best friend, you go home knowing you've changed lives. As a member of our animal care team, you can expect to work collaboratively with a team of employees & volunteers to:
Clean kennels and other enclosures to provide clean, comfortable quarters for our furry friends
Make sure every cat, dog, guinea pig, and rabbit gets enough to food and water
Keep our furry friends comfy with blankets and beds (this means there's some laundry to do!)
Keep a close eye on the animals for signs of illness or injury.
Take special care of sick or injured cats and dogs, or those with behavior challenges, until they are ready for adoption
Snuggle cats, walk dogs, pat the bunny, and make sure everyone has the toys and treats they need to keep them entertained
Make visitors to the shelter feel welcome and appreciated
Play matchmaker between potential adopters and the cats, dogs, and other critters who need a home
Who are we looking for?
We are willing to train the right person how to do the job, but we'd like you to bring these qualities and skills to the table:
Willingness to work with both dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments
Plays well with others and loves to help people
Detail-oriented, positive, patient, compassionate
Able to go with the flow and be flexible when plans change suddenly
Safety-conscious
Able to lift up to 40 lbs independently
Comfortable with computer use, and willing & able to learn new software
The ability to speak Spanish or Haitian Creole in addition to English is a plus!
We want you to have a high school diploma or GED. Additional education is great, especially if it's in biology or animal behavior or the veterinary field, but it's OK if college wasn't for you.
If you have at least one year of experience working in a shelter, vet clinic, boarding facility, sanctuary, or zoo, that does stand out to us, but it's not absolutely required.
