POSITION SUMMARY
Coordinate the activities of the local Inspire the Dream Mentoring Program committed to the advancement of quality mentoring programs for youth. The Mentor Coordinator recruits, screens, trains, matches, and supervises volunteer mentors. The Mentor Coordinator works with Dreamers / Dreamer Scholars and direct services staff to identify program mentee-mentor matches. Once the matches are made, the Mentor Coordinator provides guidance to volunteer mentors as they work to build supportive relationships with program participants. The Mentor Coordinator will supervise mentors, update curriculum and materials as needed, and track and evaluate program deliverables.
RESPONSIBILITIES
● Implement Mentor Program and meet deliverables for OJJDP Mentoring Grant.
● Recruit, screen, orient and provide training to all incoming volunteer mentors.
● Provide ongoing support and supervision to mentors, specifically conduct at least once per month one-on-one supervision as well as ongoing responsiveness to mentor questions and concerns.
● Work with the Mentor Training and Technical Assistance Manager, and other program staff in refining the quality, quantity, efficiency and effectiveness of the organization’s work.
● Work with program staff to identify youth for the program.
● Conduct outreach and communications to increase youth referrals.
● Maintain documentation and track program deliverables, including those of partner agencies for semi-annual reporting and data collection.
● Plan and develop outreach/engagement events for program participants and mentors.
● Customize and deliver mentor training sessions. Assess and respond to ongoing training needs of mentors/program participants.
● Implement curriculum to reflect trends in the field and needs of mentors and mentoring
programs.
● Work with existing community partnerships and assist to create new partnerships in the
community to expand training goals. Identify and support training needs of various
partnerships.
● Participate in monthly Inspire the Dream Mentoring Program meetings with Affiliate Mentoring
Volunteer Coordinators.
● Actively participate in supervision and staff training.
● Maintain confidentiality at all times.
● Perform other duties as opportunities are presented and/or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
● Ability to provide superior customer service to Affiliates, partner agencies, volunteers, staff and community members
● Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, implementing and completing projects within stated timelines
● Sound judgment and the ability to supervise mentors in the field
● Excellent speaking and writing skills; Bilingual Spanish is a plus and may be required in certain locations
● Ability to develop positive relationships with community volunteers and with youth
● Demonstrate initiative in following through independently with projects and tasks
● Demonstrate support of organizational objectives/initiatives, assisting as needed
● Demonstrate creative problem solving
● Demonstrate commitment to personal and organizational development
Education/Experience
● College degree in Human Services, Social Science or closely related field, relevant experience
will be considered
● Working with volunteers
