IT Specialist

Reno, NV
Full Time
Paid
  • Responsibilities

Because someone has to “turn it off and turn it on again.”

    About the role
As our IT Specialist, you'll be the day-to-day technology expert for our agency (and allllllll of the mac devices we use), navigating the complexities of a modern, remote workforce. Sure, we jest about the 'turn it off and on again' approach, but we’re counting on you to solve the more intricate tech problems that go beyond the basics.

When something—anything—tech-related doesn't work (which, trust us, happens a lot), you'll be our go-to fixer. On top of troubleshooting, you’ll help us modernize our workflows, improve efficiency, and bolster our security, ensuring that our teams can stay focused on their work, not on error screens. And make sure you’re ready for the “special projects” because we’re always cooking something that could use some technology assistance.

    Things you’ll be doing

    • Provide excellent customer service while handling service requests
    • Work with software and hardware vendors to resolve technology issues
    • Document IT assets and processes
    • Mentor teammates on the appropriate use of technology systems and tools
    • Assist in deploying proof-of-concept implementations for new solutions
    • Perform regular maintenance on IT assets to provide a reliable and secure computing experience for your teammates
    • Ward off the tech demons who trouble your teammates during the all-hands meeting

    Must haves

    • Reno-based - a lot of our staff still resides in Reno (even though working remotely) and our office is a hub for all that. On-site work will be required and expected
    • macOS management - MDM concepts, deployment, troubleshooting, basic scripting
    • Small office & remote connectivity - WiFi, DHCP, NAT, firewalls, site-to-site & client VPNs
    • Software and license management - integrations, and oversight on all licenses and accounts for employees
    • IT asset management - tagging, inventory control, device assignment reporting
    • Backup management and recovery - keep KPS3’s data resilient
    • Printer troubleshooting - yeah… we know, but someone (you) has to be the hero!

Formal education or certifications are a plus

    • Apple Certified IT Professional
    • Apple Certified Support Professional
    • CompTIA A+
    • CompTIA Network+
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
    • Bachelors or Associates degree in Computer Science, Network/Server Administration, or similar

Random technology list of things we use

    • 100% Mac Based (hardware)
    • Rippling (HR & MDM)
    • PFsense / Unifi
    • Google Suite
    • Zoom
    • & loads more

Bonus points… but don’t let it deter you from applying if you don’t have

    • Automation - you can write Python, understand web API usage, and development workflows
    • Advanced networking - network segmentation (“router on a stick” style), TCP/UDP flow analysis, TLS handshake troubleshooting
    • Cloud Service Providers - basic AWS, Azure or GCP administration
    • Modern Identity Management - enterprise password managers, SAML & OpenID Connect SSO
    • PKI certificates & cybersecurity - crypto is not a currency, it’s a lifestyle
    • Virtualization with KVM - managing small scale virtual server infrastructure

Perks, notes, and other company stuff

    • We pay 100% medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums for you.
    • Can’t forget about life insurance—we cover that, too.
    • 401k match. Booyah.
    • We give an annual lifestyle benefit card that you get to spend on whatever helps you have fun/relax.
    • You get loads of time off (20 days to start, not including holidays).
    • We don't work on old computers or have old software.
    • Flexibility: We ask a lot from everyone here, so it's fair to ask us for some back.
