Summary
The IW Shelter Manager located in Oregon City OR is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of the Shelter facility including the safety of participants. Responsible for program development, provides supervision and staff support, and is responsible for program documentation and compliance. The position is an evolving role and will participate in program development as new opportunities arise.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Shelter Facility Operations Management:
Provide oversight for IW center staff, direct participant support, and collaborate with the Day Center Manager and volunteers.
Assist with daily tasks, including meal preparation, cleaning, and participant personal hygiene support.
Monitor shelter operations to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
Maintain cleanliness of the building ensuring standards are met.
Responsible for proper Shelter set up including set up and breakdown of tables, chairs, and sleeping mats and facility locked as required.
Monitor and address any client concerns or disruptions, if necessary, contact behavioral health for support.
Documentation and Compliance:
Ensure that all records are entered in a timely manner, are accurate, and all participant interactions are documented appropriately.
Ensure that The Father’s Heart policies, procedures and expected practices are implemented, maintained, and followed.
Program Development
Plan and develop program initiatives and innovations, seeking guidance from the Day Center Manager and the Deputy Director.
Develop and implement policies with assistance from the Day Center Manager and the Deputy Director.
Assist with building programs, creating and overseeing budgets, contract negotiations and implementation, and more.
Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with staff, and other community partners
Education and/or Experience Successful candidate will be a service-oriented individual with high personal standards and a hands-on work style. This position requires an individual who is comfortable working at a varying pace, managing multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously, adjusting priorities often, and managing frequent interruptions.
This position interacts with and provides service to internal employees and has high levels of contact with clients. The IW Shelter Manager must be positive, approachable, empathetic, and work effectively with diverse personalities. In addition, the following is required unless otherwise noted:
Successful work history to include 2 years of experience in mental health, social services or non-profit directly related to job responsibilities specified above, with progressively greater responsibility for making administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
Experience in shelter work is a plus but not required.
Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, and Excel) database management and with the ability to operate standard office equipment.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Demonstrated ability to resolve problems and present results neatly, with clarity and precision in oral and written form.
Demonstrated ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care, mental health, or crisis intervention is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in potentially stressful situations.
Maintain applicable valid licenses and certifications and meet continuing education requirements. Maintain a valid Driver’s License & have reliable transportation.
Work Environment & Physical Demands Work is performed in a homeless shelter that is fast paced, emotionally demanding setting that requires flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to handle stressful situations. This is a physically active position requiring the ability to stoop, bend and regularly lift up to 25lbs.
This position requires weekends, holidays and overnight shifts supporting the Shelter during inclement weather events as needed.
Extended work hours (10 – 12 hrs/day) required on occasion due to attendance and participation at industry functions that begin well before the workday and may extend well into the evening, or when dealing with emergency situations with participants. 15 - 30 percent travel may be required.
