Global consumer apparel company is currently seeking a Senior Indirect Tax Manager to join their growing team in Los Angeles. In this role, you will work closely with members of the global tax and finance teams to help drive efficiency and facilitate the flow of accurate and timely tax compliance. The ideal candidate will tax accounting and/or indirect tax experience and possess analytical, project management and organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks. This role reports to the VP, Global Tax.
Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation, review and filing of US indirect tax returns, including sales tax, goods and services tax (GST) and other applicable taxes. Requires coordination with external service providers to ensure timely and accurate completion of all tax filings.
- Responsible for reconciliation and posting of journal entries for all tax related accounts. Requires analysis and review of general ledger activity to ensure accuracy and completeness of amounts/balances.
- Process all incoming tax notices and bills and execute the company’s response to all US indirect tax notices.
- Manage indirect tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, including gathering and analyzing relevant data and well as preparing responses to communicate directly with auditors.
- Support other indirect filings, such as property tax filings and payments, business license registrations and renewals, various gross receipts and excise tax returns, and others.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize indirect tax positions, minimize tax liabilities, and maximize tax savings opportunities.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in tax legislation, regulations, and reporting requirements to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as finance, legal, and supply chain teams, to integrate tax considerations into business operations.
- Work with IT teams and external vendors to implement tax-related software solutions and maintain data integrity.
- Support the global tax team with other special projects by gathering documentation and preparing workpapers.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of tax accounting and/or indirect tax compliance and planning.
- Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline. CPA a plus.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex tax legislative and regulatory updates and apply directly to the business.
- Public accounting and/or industry experience required;
- Other knowledge, skills or abilities: Basic understanding of US, Canadian & Australian sales/use tax concepts; Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Proficiency in tax software applications and ERP systems (ie: Avalara and Oracle);
- Self-starter with good judgement and strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
