STEM Achievers Summer Program
Independence Community College is excited to announce a part-time opening for the position of Instructor/Teacher with the Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Achievers Summer Program at Fab Lab ICC.
What You’ll Do The Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Achievers Program was created to teach middle school students next-gen technology, STEM and entrepreneurship skills through hands-on, interactive instruction.
Verizon Innovative Learning instructor/teacher training is an opportunity to engage in powerful teaching and learning that leverages technology in and out of the classroom.
As an Instructor/Teacher, you will facilitate, encourage, and guide hands-on and virtual learning activities of Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Achievers Program participants. The duties will be conducted in-person at Fab Lab ICC.
Responsibilities:
Promote a strong learning culture among all project participants.
Nurture student opportunities for leadership in technology and STEM.
Complete One-Day Workshop in June 2025 (8 hours).
Provide instruction to students throughout the 3-week summer camp (June 30 – July 18, 2025).
Perform Chaperone Duties at trips during summer camp.
Instructor will be assigned and responsible for teaching one of the following areas:
Immersive Media – virtual reality; augmented reality; solve design challenges.
Digital Product Innovation – 2D and 3D design, 3D printing.
Smart Solutions – coding and electronic sensors; solve social challenges.
Artificial Intelligence + Robotics – program autonomous vehicles (drones).
Design Thinking – a process that uses specific steps to innovative solutions to life based on how real users think, feel, and behave.
Who We’re Looking For We’re seeking a candidate who brings not only technical expertise but also a passion for education and student success. Our ideal candidate will have:
Middle school teaching experience (2 years or more)
Awareness and experience in the use of digital media for the integration of technology into the classroom
Ability to address access and equity issues with a variety of individuals and groups
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Successful applicants will be able to teach and motivate students through hands-on projects.
Applicants must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, engage in active listening, and encourage personalized learning.
Successful applicants will possess working knowledge of Windows operating system, MS Office, online learning platforms, and related desktop applications.
Applicants must take initiative to learn new technology (3D printing, new applications, etc.).
