Summary:
Maintains and troubleshoots instrumentation, electrical equipment, PLC’s, and DC control system in a continuously operated chemical plant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Assist in root cause failure analysis of equipment.
-Assist in repair work performed by contractors when necessary.
-Tune controllers.
-Repair switchgear.
-Size and install electrical wire.
-Capable of installing, troubleshooting, and repairing control components, motor circuits,
building and lighting circuits, and control circuits.
-Document repairs as appropriate for RMP.
-Able to respond to after hour call outs.
-Must have personal set of tools appropriate for the position.
Requirements:
-Responsible attitude for personal safety and the safety of co-workers, contractors, and the public.
-Self starter and ability to self-direct work.
-Excellent diagnostic and repair skills for complex problems in instrumentation, distributive control systems (DCS), and programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), including modifying program logic.
-Good computer skills.
-Team oriented, flexible and able to work with minimal supervision.
-Proficient in reading electrical and instrument schematics, manuals, and P&ID’s.
-Proficient in using all test equipment associated with troubleshooting instrument and
electrical equipment.
-Working knowledge of HVAC equipment.
-Knowledgeable of NEC and OSHA standards.
Education and/or Experience:
-Instrument and electrical certificate or trade school equivalent required.
-Three years experience in industrial instrument and electrical repair required.
-High school diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Demands:
-Must be able to lift up to and including 50 pounds
-Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment
-Must be able to climb stairs, up to 25 steps, multiple and numerous times per shift
-Must be able to climb a ladder up to 20 feet as needed
-Must be able to turn valves, pushing and pulling them into the open and close position
multiple and numerous times per shift
-Must be able to work in conditions exceeding the ambient air temperature by
approximately 30 degrees F
-Must be able to work in an environment with an electromagnetic field
