Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and responsible Wonderful Scholar for full time internship. In this position, you will gain hands on professional experience and learn how the department runs.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assisting with activities related to water scheduling and monitoring.
• Includes collecting, recording, and analyzing information from water monitoring devices (soil moisture sensors, Pressure Chambers, water meters, weather stations)
• Collect Static Water Level readings from monitoring wells.
• Assisting with pump testing and flow meter calibration certifications
• Collect water samples and leaf tissue samples.

** Work environment/conditions**

•Occasionally the employment commitment may require work or travel on weekends and outside normal business hours to collect or analyze data.

•Field work requires use of an ATV and some farm machinery (training provided) and dexterity in handling moderately heavy (50 lbs.) pieces of equipment while on foot in the orchards.

•Orchard conditions are extreme, with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 100 F°.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, shall, and/ or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Must be a Wonderful Scholar in Sophomore, Junior, or senior year of college.
• Enrolled in accredited graduate or undergraduate degree program with studies focused in Agriculture, Water management, Agriculture Engineering, Bio Resource, precision agriculture related field preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age.

SPECIFIC KNOWELDGE, AND SKILLS:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-directed and able to work autonomously.
• Energetic and able to tackle new projects and ideas.
• Ability to write and present reports as requested.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.

LICENCES:

• CA Valid Driver’s License.

- Pay rate: $18.50/hr.
