    J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for a Market Data Business Analyst – Commodities & Energy based in either Philadelphia or Houston.

    Reporting to the Head of Sourcing & Vendor Management, Americas, and Head of Market Data, we are seeking an experienced business analyst to join the Sourcing & Vendor Management team to support Market Data needs for the firm’s Commodity Markets and Finance line of business.

    You will be part of the firm’s global Market Data team working closely with the firm’s Commodity Markets and Finance line of businesses in Houston or Philadelphia providing support, analysis, advice, and guidance as it relates to Market data. You will participate and lead strategic and business driven initiatives to help drive efficiencies and cost management.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide advice and analysis on market data products
    • Understand, interpret, and define business requirements
    • Effectively interact with stakeholders, operations, and technology teams
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with our market data vendor and Exchanges
    • Understand what can and can't be done with data and products
    • Analyze more cost-effective ways to use data across the enterprise
    • Match best product to user needs
    • Contract management; validate commercial framework, terms & conditions
    • Evaluate vendor and product offerings
    • Ensure compliance with contracts terms.
    • Define reporting requirements for business units
    • Deliver and implement solutions (in conjunction with business and technology)

    The ideal candidate would have a background including:

    To be successful in this role you will have strong product knowledge across commodities & energy market data, with the ability to interpret and define critical business requirements. Good analytical and reporting skills together with excellent interpersonal skills to form strong internal relationships.

    • 5+ years of relevant Commodities related Market Data financial services experience, preferable in energy markets and with an understanding of vendor products such as Platts, Argus, Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg as well as exchanges ICE, CME etc.
    • Experience working with LIM and ZEMA platforms in the energy sector is a plus
    • Experience with market data licensing and vendor negotiations
    • Adapt at interpreting Market data agreements, contractual terms, data usage and distribution
    • Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment
    • Excellent Communication and Relationship Management skills, ability to effectively communicate at all business levels
    • Proficient in data analysis using the Microsoft Office suite
    • Proficient in requirements gathering, business analysis and solution definition
    • Strong attention to detail

    Education:

    • Strong academic record and a BA/BS degree
