CONSTRUCTION PURCHASING AGENT
MINIMUM JOB DESCRIPTION
· Receive and process routine material & small tools/equipment orders from foremen.
· Review any questionable orders with Project Managers and/or general superintendents.
· Order required materials from suppliers or direct yard labor to obtain materials from stock. Refer to project submittals prior to ordering materials when appropriate.
· Monitor progress of orders with vendors and/or yard labor; expedite if necessary.
· Coordinate/direct efficient delivery of materials, tools, and small equipment to job sites from main office/yard or various suppliers as required.
· Ensure all orders are filled and delivered by the required dates.
· Follow up on excess materials returned from jobs, especially if an overage exists.
· Monitor current inventory levels and replenish as needed or directed.
· Efficiently manage drivers and yard labor workflow to promote safety while minimizing errors and waste.
· Maintain “to-do list” that can be used as fill-in work for drivers and yard labor during slower times or inclement weather days.
· Ensure drivers are keeping trucks clean and maintained.
· Maintain organization and cleanliness of yard & shop (not mechanic’s areas) by delegating to & directing yard labor.
· Receive freight and parcel shipments in yard/shop and process items appropriately in a timely manner.
· Manage vendor relationships including resolving problems, negotiating pricing, and addressing delivery or operational issues to achieve optimal vendor performance and costing.
· Work with suppliers/vendors to get best pricing possible.
· Work with suppliers/vendors to address overages and shortages, focusing on future prevention and invoice correction.
· Perform general clerical and administrative duties as directed, including collaborating with accounting department and vendors to solve invoicing issues.
· Participate in departmental meetings and management meetings as requested.
· Manage time sheets and other documentation (receipts, shippers, etc), ensuring paperwork is marked with proper information and submitted in a timely manner.
EXPECTATIONS OF THIS POSITION:
· Construction experience is required; concrete construction experience preferred.
· MUST WORK SAFELY!
· Start early – typically around 6:00 AM, Monday through Friday; occasionally requires evening and Saturday work; generally, requires 50-60 hours per week during peak construction season.
· Perform expected duties without constant reminders and direct supervision.
· Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects/tasks.
· Possess clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
· Effectively use a computer including standard Microsoft Office software, web-based applications, internet.
· Research and analyze information to draw valid conclusions and make educated decisions.
· Answer phone calls or text messages from other company personnel and suppliers/vendors immediately when at all possible. If not possible to answer, return the calls as soon as practical.
· Be physically fit with no restrictions related to lifting, pulling, pushing, sitting, standing, walking, driving, etc.
· Be able to pass random drug tests and must maintain clean driving record per company vehicle policy.
· Have knowledge of local roads and ability to read maps or understand how to use a GPS
· Possess ability to operate forklift and basic construction equipment (preferred but not required).
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
· Salaried Position; may require longer workdays during regular season with shorter days in off season.
· Salary range of $60K - $75K, commensurate with work experience

· Accountable to General Superintendents and General Manager for all areas of this position.
