Business Unit Manager – Commercial Construction
Job Description
ROLE:
LOCATION: Pulaski, TN USA
This executive will have demonstrable commercial construction experience, skills to manage a growing commercial construction business, and able to financially maximize return. The associate must effectively lead and manage growth of the organization including internal as well as external staff. This leader will have demonstrated P&L ownership having managed revenue, COGS, and overhead efficiently.

GENERAL MANAGEMENT EXPECTATIONS:
· Analyze current commercial construction business and identify opportunities/gaps
· Recommend strategic and tactical business plan to close gaps and maximize financial results
· Develop construction-specific project management and process documentation to ensure success of current and future projects
· Ensure construction contracts, statements of work, and bid documents are written accurately and protect the business
· Establish appropriate construction management specific key performance indicators (KPIs)
SALES/BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT:
· Experience making the sale, closing the deal, and developing businesses/relationships
· Skillfully manage the construction sales cycle to ensure opportunities are moving from lead generation to bid to closing the sale to execution to project close out
· Manage the quote/SOW review and develop a profitable bid taking into account market-based pricing, strategic direction of the business, and tactical execution considerations
STAFFING:
· Develop a skills-based hiring plan to satisfy business objectives
· Sequence hiring as needed for growth
· Establish clear objectives and measurables for each associate with the company performance management process
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:
· Command of business unit income statement
· Establish project and business unit goals that maximize profitability
· Use AIA pay apps and process controls for invoicing, collection, and integration with ERP

· Ability to assess business status and adjust when needed

BACKGROUND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or equivalent degree
· Master’s Degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, or the like a plus
· 2-4 years’ experience as a construction business unit manager with P&L experience
· 4-6 years’ experience simultaneously and successfully managing multiple construction projects in the $3MM-$10MM range
· 3-5 years’ experience as a site superintendent managing single construction projects in the $1MM-$10MM range
