Position: Appraiser and Estate Specialist
Job Summary: We are seeking a meticulous and knowledgeable Appraiser and Estate Specialist to join our team. This role is integral to our success, facilitating the appraisal process for jewelry items for insurance or resale purposes and overseeing the estate department. You will identify opportunities to leverage the estate department through buying and selling events.
Reports to: Sales Manager
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Occasional Saturdays, holidays, and special events as needed
Appraisals:
Appraise all incoming jewelry items for insurance or appropriate purposes.
Identify and evaluate stones, metals, and jewelry using gemological testing equipment.
Determine appropriate values based on the nature of the appraisal.
Utilize appraisal software, Quantum Leap, to produce professional appraisal documents.
Estate:
Develop third-party relationships for estate turnaround.
Plan and communicate buying direction to fulfill shop and store needs.
Complete intake identification and POS according to established protocols; update and maintain POS inventory.
Monitor inventory and make decisions regarding keeping, selling, or scrapping items.
Evaluate and facilitate repair needs on incoming inventory.
Determine the origin and period of jewelry.
Coordinate and assist in estate and buying events.
Train sales staff on general buying procedures and estate jewelry.
Operations:
Keep all files and paperwork organized and up to date.
Maintain a clean and organized work area and assigned area of responsibility.
Participate in opening and closing activities as required.
Participate in store meetings.
Assist with overflow customers and other office administrative duties as needed.
Requirements: GIA Graduate Gemologist, CGA Preferred. Minimum 2 years experience performing Appraisals.
