    Nelson Electric is looking for a dependable Journeyman Electrician in our Waterloo office to work on various projects in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls area. Qualified candidates will hold a State of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman, or Master Electrician license, and be proficient in commercial and light-industrial applications. Residential experience is a plus.

    The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for being a productive team member, delivering a quality product, maintaining excellent customer relations, and completion of project documentation. On larger projects the Journeyman Electrician may work under the direction of the Foreman Electrician and supervise several Helper and Apprentice Electricians. On smaller projects, the Journeyman Electrician serves as the lead electrician where responsible for the successful completion of the project and may supervise only one (or none) Helper or Apprentice Electricians.

    Job Duties

    Knowledge of and adherence to the National Electrical Code, including any local amendments

    Installation of electrical systems including the layout, rough-in, and trim of lighting, power, and low voltage systems

    Independently testing, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and maintenance of malfunctioning systems, components, and equipment

    Inspection of systems and equipment to identify hazards and/or defects, and correct unsafe conditions

    Ensure delivery of a quality product

    Manage time with respect to multiple jobs, tasks, and deadlines

    Manage material, including returns, so that jobs are completed timely and efficiently

    Commitment to all safety procedures and engage in safety training

    Able to direct, manage, and instruct Apprentice and Helper Electricians in applicable aspects of the electrical trade

    Coordinate with other contractors as needed

    Complete all paperwork in a timely, neat, and organized manner

    Ensure job documentation is completed, including tracking and reporting any changes made in the field

    Keeps worksite, vehicles, and tools clean and completes maintenance as needed

    Use equipment safely and return in good condition

    Ability to read and interpret job drawings and schematics

    Ability to be on an on-call rotation for emergency after hours work

    Effective written and verbal communication skills, responding to questions quickly and completely

    Ability to perform work, including paperwork, accurately and thoroughly with attention to detail

    Mechanical and technical aptitude

    Ability to be flexible and meet changing guidelines

    Ability to work both as a team and independently to provide a positive customer experience

    Education/Licensing/Experience

    A high school diploma or GED

    Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License, CDL Class B license preferred

    OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification

    Experience bending and installing EMT

    Experience threading Rigid pipe up to 4”

    Experience installing and troubleshooting LV Fire Alarm systems

    Experience with data cabling and cable terminations

    Experience installing explosion-proof power and lighting system

    Lighting controls experience preferred

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, bend or kneel for long periods of time

    Ability to routinely lift 50 lbs overhead, and routinely lift 100 lbs to waist height

    Ability to work at elevated heights

    Ability to wear all PPE required (PPE supplied by the company)

    Ability to work in all-weather temperatures/climates
