About the Role:
Aquila is seeking a Jr. Systems Administrator to join our team in supporting one of the country’s premier defense research organizations. The team is in need of Systems Administrators in the Communication Systems and Cyber Security Division to support the development of new technologies that enable worldwide networked operations for the Organization.
There are a few requirements for the position:
- Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
- Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
What You'll Do:
Maintains operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination of infrastructure and cloud responsibilities. Develops and designs core operating system builds. Responsible for coding, virtualization, and automation of systems. Sets up administrator and service accounts, maintains an active directory of users and system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space. Assesses and resolves user access problems related to security controls to minimize business impact and risk exposure. Identifies and evaluates vendor products and establishes vendor monitoring and tracking processes. Performs capacity planning and monitors/tunes systems. Recommends appropriate platforms for purchase, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery. Serves as a point of escalation for major incidents that are unresolved at the helpdesk level. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. May draft general IT communications to end-users including notifications of outages/downtimes. May serve as the primary liaison for mergers, acquisitions, and divesture activities as it relates to user access, network, security, and support.
Responsibilities:
- Processing mobile device procurement orders and services requested via the ServiceNow ticketing platform.
- Updating records of employees or mobile lines of service in associated databases.
- Completing the required paperwork to ship material goods to remote Organizations staff or new hire candidates.
- Assisting in the porting of mobile lines of service between service carriers.
- Analyzing and resolving mobile device financial error reports.
- Creating, analyzing, and resolving mobile device compliance reports.
- Developing well-written instructional knowledge base articles.
- Generating ad hoc reports, conducting data analysis, and resolving issues.
- Completing minor projects.
- Clearly, accurately, and frequently communicating with customers of all education levels regarding requests.
Required Skills:
- 3-4 years of Desktop support experience
- Experience and familiarity with the following operating systems - Windows Server 2012, 2016 and 2019, Windows 7 and 10.
- Experience working on Mac systems.
- The ability to Collaborate with team members in order to complete assigned tasks/projects.
- Experience managing and tracking issues with ticketing program (Remedy, Service Now, Jira, etc)
- Install, update, and troubleshoot systems/servers.
- BS degree or equivalent experience. Any prior military experience is a plus. They will modify the years of experience if someone has the majority of the technical skills and a military background
- Systems Administration is a plus.
- Any Linux experience is a plus.
- Experience managing classified IT systems, STIGs, SCAPS, RMF
- Experience maintaining directory services. (e.g., Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP, etc.).
- Managing afs infrastructure to include users, groups and data.
- Managing lifecycles of equipment to include computers, servers and mobility
- Configuring and managing Cisco/Juniper equipment to include switches, routers and Call Managers.
- Troubleshooting mobile devices to included iPhones, iPads
- Basic experience with managing or operating containers
- Experience with virtual machines. (e.g., Microsoft Hyper-V, VMWare vSphere, Citrix XenDesktop/Server, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, etc.).
- Experience managing system/server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
- Able to diagnose and perform repairs on faulty system/server hardware.
- Develop and document systems administration standard operating procedures.
- Plan, execute, and verify data redundancy and system recovery procedures.
- Conduct periodic system maintenance including cleaning (both physically and electronically), disk checks, routine reboots, data dumps, and testing.
- Provide ongoing optimization and problem-solving support
Must Have:- 3 years Desktop and Server Support (installation, patching, auditing, configuration, security, AD, etc.)
- 3 years Diagnose, repair and troubleshoot system/server hardware
- 3 years Managing AFS infrastructure (users, groups, and data)
- 3 years Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain desktop and server-grade hardware
- 3 years Experience with one: Windows Server 12', 16' & 19', Windows 7 & 10
- 3 years Technical and Desktop Support
- 3 years Ticketing Systems
Nice to Have:- CompTIA Security+ Certification
- Bachelor's Degree

Applicable Education and Professional Accreditation:
- Degree in one of the following disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, or a related technical discipline
- Certification(s) in one or more of the following disciplines: Solaris administration, Red Hat, VMWare, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); CompTIA Security+; Linux Professional Institute Certification
- Any prior military experience is a plus. They will modify the years of experience or the required Bachelor's Degree if someone has the majority of the technical skills and a military background.
