  • Responsibilities

    A Bethel, CT-based construction materials testing company is seeking a Junior Accountant to become a long-term member of our dynamic team. The Junior Accountant will provide support & report directly to Ownership of the organization. Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, reconciling accounts, preparing reports, manage billing & collections, and posting journal entries. The Junior Accountant is also responsible for many aspects of the monthly closing process including balance sheet account reconciliations, preparation of monthly and ad-hoc journal entries and commissions. This position requires excellent judgment, meticulous attention to details, strong problem-solving skills, good knowledge of Excel functions/formulas, and the ability to be professionally assertive.

    Key Responsibilities

    Prepare invoices and post payments to customer accounts

    Prepare statements & follow-up on delinquent accounts

    Ensure that all invoices are sent in a timely manner

    Resolve payment discrepancies

    Creates balance sheet account analysis & reconciliations on a monthly basis

    Collaborates with manager on the monthly invoicing process

    Prepare excel spreadsheets, analyze data, and complete ad hoc assignments, as needed

    Effective and efficient communication within the finance team

    Assist in preparing documents for internal & external audits and tax filings

    Own the monthly and quarterly close and year-end audit and financial reporting processes, with a focus on driving improvements to enable optimal business decisions

    Other jobs & duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor's or Associates Degree in Accounting

    Minimum of 2 years of work experience in bookkeeping or related fields

    1-3+ years of business finance

    Proficiency in Sage50 Accounting, MS Office 365 and MS Office products especially MS Excel

    Sound understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices

    Strong fluency with Excel formulas and functions

    Highly analytical and strong data gathering skills

    Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment

    Physical Demands

    Must be able to sit at a desk 80 percent of the time

    Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets and office machinery

    Must be able to operate a computer & other office machines (i.e. printer, copier)

    Must be able to frequently communicate via both telephone and email
