Job Summary:
The Family Service Worker (FSW) works with youth involved in the juvenile justice system and their families to provide case management, advocacy, and support services. This role helps families navigate the legal system, access community resources, and develop intervention plans to reduce recidivism and improve family stability.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct assessments of youth and family needs.
• Develop individualized service plans focused on rehabilitation, behavior modification, and family support.
• Monitor and document client progress, accurately and on time
• Help families develop strategies to achieve court-mandated and personal goals
• Maintain client confidentiality and professionalism
• Collaborate with State of Nebraska Juvenile Probation Officers to address barriers and successes
• Provide crisis intervention, counseling, and referrals for mental health, substance abuse, or other social and community services.
• Attend family meetings and mediation to improve communication and relationships.
• Educate families on the basic juvenile justice process, and available resources (resource navigation, life-skills, parenting-skills, practical support).
• Coordinate with probation officers, social workers, schools, and other community organizations.
• Prepare and present reports for court proceedings, probation hearings, and case reviews.
• Advocate for youth and families within the justice system.
• Establish an effective partnership with the probation officer and other service providers to support families with their individualized service plan goals.
• Implement evidence-based intervention programs to prevent further delinquency.
• Support reintegration into school and community after detention or diversion programs.
• Provide workshops or educational programs for youth and families on conflict resolution, coping skills, and legal responsibilities
• Maintain case files, progress notes, per agency and legal guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding child welfare and juvenile justice services.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years old
ability to build and maintain strong rapport with diverse populations and families
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Excellent time management, interpersonal, and problem solving abilities
Transportation of clients on frequent basis
• Education: (preferred but not required) Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, or a related field, some college.
• Experience: 1-3 years in social services, juvenile justice, child welfare, or related fields.

• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and juvenile justice policies.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and high-risk youth.
• Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills.
• Case management and documentation proficiency.
• Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Background check and child abuse clearance.
