    JOB SUMMARY:

    The K-6 Flexible Teacher plays a vital role in ensuring seamless instruction and continued student learning when classroom teachers are absent or vacancies occur. This position requires strong classroom management, adaptability, and a solid understanding of K-6 curricula to effectively deliver lesson plans, lead small group interventions, and support high-priority grade levels. The ideal candidate enjoys making an impact across the school, thrives in a dynamic environment, demonstrates resilience, and is able to quickly internalize lesson plans to maintain the instructional pacing guide across multiple grade levels.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree

    LICENSE: Must hold a valid Indiana State Teacher's License in Elementary Education (K-6). Must be deemed Highly Qualified in accordance with the Indiana Department of Education

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCES:

    • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in an elementary school setting

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCES:

    • Experience working across multiple grade levels
    • Prior experience in intervention groups, small group instruction, or co-teaching
    • Completion of Early Literacy Endorsement
    • Experience working in a Title I school or with a similar population of children
    • Experience implementing mindfulness and restorative practices

    • Classroom Management: Ability to manage a classroom independently and effectively, ensuring little to no loss of instructional time when covering for absent teachers and differentiating approach based on grade level and other student needs
    • Curriculum & Pedagogical Knowledge: General knowledge of K-6 curricula and instructional best practices that can translate across multiple grade levels
    • **Assessment & Intervention Literacy: **proficient in administering, tracking, and analyzing progress monitoring data, identifying specific skill gaps and learning barriers, and adjusting intervention plans based on student response
    • Use of Evidence-Based Instructional Practices: Demonstrate understanding and use of evidence-based instructional strategies
    • **Relationship Building & Collaboration: **Foster collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, families, and other stakeholders and share work with others to maximize impact
    • Operational Efficiency: Utilize time management and organizational strategies that maximize instructional impact while fulfilling operational duties with accuracy and timeliness

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Instructional & Social Emotional Excellence

    • Lead instruction for any K-6 classroom experiencing a teacher absence or vacancy:
      • Internalize and deliver lesson plans that ensure continuity of instructional rigor and pacing
      • Maintain an environment conducive to safety and learning that promotes both intellectual growth and emotional well-being
    • Support priority grade levels as an additional team member, assisting with co-teaching, intervention groups, or differentiated instruction
    • Implement evidence-based instructional strategies and apply neuroscience and mindfulness principles to support students' developmental needs

    Data-Driven Practice

    • Frequently assess and document student skills and growth across academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains through facilitation of classroom assessments and intervention progress monitoring
    • Utilize common assessments and shared data systems across the team to evaluate student learning and instructional effectiveness
    • Collaborate with colleagues to analyze student work and assessment data and plan targeted instructional adjustments
    • Administer, track, and analyze progress monitoring data, identifying specific skill gaps and learning barriers, and adjusting intervention plans based on student response

    Communication & Collaboration

    • Adapt to last-minute changes by seamlessly transitioning into different grade levels or instructional support roles as needed and providing smooth transitions for students
    • Effectively communicate with school leadership and teaching staff to stay informed about daily coverage needs and instructional priorities.
    • Participate in shared communication systems, including inputting real-time data in a timely manner
    • Encourage meaningful family involvement in the educational process by maintaining classroom family communication structures when covering classrooms and providing updates to families on intervention progress
    • Collaborate effectively with administration, student support staff, and all staff
    • Seek and utilize community resources to enhance instructional programming
    • Resolve conflicts promptly using reason and emotional intelligence, focusing on solutions rather than blame
    • Uphold school policies and procedures while contributing to a culture of excellence and accountability.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on- one, small group, and large group situations.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY : Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
