    Come join our ohana!  The KCAA’s Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Center for Early Education & Development (CEED) is looking for a Master Preschool Teacher.  We are looking for driven, dedicated, and positive individuals who are passionate in early childhood education and mentoring other educators to help the keiki of Hawaii to develop and grow. 

    Under the supervision of the Center Director (CD), the CEED Teacher establishes and implements goals and objectives of the Model Demonstration Center in their curriculum that meets the needs of their students.  CEED Teachers also mentor and open their model classrooms to other educators to observe and learn while maintaining a positive and nurturing environment that fosters growth and development of the children while always ensuring health, safety, and communication with parents and the CD.

    JOB DUTIES OF OUR CEED TEACHERS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Curriculum planning and implementation based Diane Trister Dodge’s “Creative Curriculum” for the children enrolled in the Model Demonstration Center (MDC)
    • Developing goals and objectives for the children in their class, focusing on children's skills/abilities in the social, emotional, physical, aesthetic and cognitive development
    • Regularly welcoming observers to the classroom and serving as a master level teacher, providing KCAA staff and practitioners in the early education field the opportunity to observe promising practices as demonstrated in a model classroom
    • Explaining current early childhood educational practices in an engaging and comprehensive manner to Early Childhood educators and Non-Early Childhood educators alike
    • Maintaining current awareness of prevailing effective training methods and philosophies which support best practices in adult development
    • Ensuring safety and health of all students through active supervision and interaction
    • Creating a supportive learning environment for children and their parents
    • Assessing children's progress/growth through regular individual observations and documentation.
    • Establishing and maintaining communication with parents and/or guardians in regards to their child’s health, development, behavior, and progress
    • Completing documentation of the individual portfolios for each child including their work, developmental records, parent comments, assessments, and reports
    • Ensuring compliance with KCAA operating procedures as well as NAEYC, DOH, and DHS health practices and guidelines

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must have a college degree or certificate from an accredited institution
      • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, or, an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education
      • Minimum of 6 months experience working with young children under the age of 7; or, Child Development Associate certificate with 36 credits in Early Childhood Education and 1 year experience working with young children under the age of 7.
      • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Special Education or related field with a minimum of 12 credits in child development or early childhood education plus a minimum of 6 months experience working with young children under the age of 7 will be considered.
    • Highly proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with Gmail a plus
    • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with a safe and responsible driving record. 
    • Must successfully pass DHS Criminal History Check and all subsequent annual checks, as required.
    • Must successfully complete KCAA Orientation Program.
    • Lift, push, pull or carry 50 pounds without assistance and/or have the ability to assess the weight in order to ask for necessary assistance or to determine a safer method of moving the load.
    • Move with agility over and under children and objects; to climb, as needed, up to heights no higher than 6 feet off the ground; to get down to child's level by either kneeling, sitting, crouching or stooping.
