    Job Summary

    We are seeking a Kennel Assistant to join our team at Charleston Animal Hospital!

    As a Kennel Assistant, you will be providing daily care for the animals we are responsible for, ensuring all of their needs are met. That can include feeding them, cleaning their kennels and play spaces, engaging them in play, walking them, and more. You will also be responsible for creating and maintaining excellent records of the animals and their care, including temperament and preferences. The ideal candidate loves animals, has basic knowledge of good animal handling procedures, and works well independently and within a team environment.

    Responsibilities

    Meet the basic and higher needs for all animals under our care

    Feed and water according to their specific needs

    Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians or supervisors

    Monitor the health and behavior of animals and report any concerns to the appropriate staff

    Play or walk the animals, as needed

    Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and common areas

    Assist with grooming and bathing of animals as needed

    Wash bedding and toys

    Greet and assist clients

    Maintain accurate records of animal care, including feeding schedules, medications, and any notable observations

    Provide excellent customer service to pet owners and visitors

    Qualifications

    Experience working with animals desired

    Ability to handle and restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments

    Strong organizational skills

    Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately

    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

    Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently

    Physical stamina to perform tasks such as heavy lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods of time

    Note: This position will require working on some weekends and holidays.
