    TOOL AND DIE MAKER (ENGINEERING STAFF) * Full Time * 405 Industrial Boulevard, Leesburg, Alabama 35983 Immediate opening in our Stamping Die Maintenance department to lead the die shop through supporting the die tech associates in a safe, efficient and quality oriented work directions, instructions and training. Also keeps up with the work flow. Essential Job Responsibilities: * Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators. * Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications. * Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies. * Review blueprints or other instructions to determine operational methods or sequences. * Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes. * Operate metal or plastic forming equipment. * Operate grinding equipment. * Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications. * Calculate dimensions of parts, products, or equipment. * Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects. * Inspect metal, plastic, or composite products. * Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools. * Assemble machine tools, parts, or fixtures. * Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications, making adjustments as necessary. * Inspect metal, plastic, or composite products. * Conduct test runs of production equipment. * File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together. * Smooth metal surfaces or edges. * Operate grinding equipment. * Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance. * Select production input materials. * Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates. * Mount materials onto production equipment. * Lift materials using cranes or other lifting equipment. * Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders. * Polish materials or finished products. * Smooth metal surfaces or edges. * Operate grinding equipment. * Develop and design new tools and dies, using computer-aided design software. * Design tools, fixtures, or other devices for production equipment. * Design jigs, fixtures, and templates for use as work aids in the fabrication of parts or products. * Design tools, fixtures, or other devices for production equipment. * Measure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes, and rulers. * Measure materials to mark reference points, cutting lines, or other indicators. * Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly. * Drill holes in parts, equipment, or materials. * Set pyrometer controls of heat-treating furnaces and feed or place parts, tools, or assemblies into furnaces to harden. * Feed materials or products into or through equipment. * Adjust temperature controls of ovens or other heating equipment. * Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules, and hand tools. * Shape metal parts with hammers or other small hand tools. * Cut industrial materials in preparation for fabrication or processing. * Ensure all associates follow safe work procedures * Ensure KLP quality standards are met * Coordinate daily manpower changes that are deemed necessary * Comply with all KLP policies and procedures as per the KLP handbook * Coordinate daily die repairs * Coordinate die modifications and quality and accuracy level up projects * Maintain an on time die P/M program * Make timely decisions on emergency die repairs * Coordinate TPM procedures * Able to trouble shoot press side die related issues * Ability to train other die maintenance associates * Maintain current overhead crane and forklift license * Ability to work overtime and/or weekends * Ability to rotate jobs or shifts * Maintain attendance per KLP policy * Ability to work in a team environment Additional Job Responsibilities: * Involvement in the KTH Safety Committee * Work on die and assist in keeping die work current * Maintain die repair records * Maintain work board and flow of work * Attendance and Time verification * Perform other duties as assigned to the satisfaction of the Stamping/Die Maintenance Manager or KLP Management Job Qualifications: * To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to do the essential functions of the Die Maintenance Team Leader position. Education/Knowledge: * High School Diploma or general equivalent diploma (GED). * Technical degree and/or educational background supportive of the Tool and Die Maker technical requirements Experience: * A minimum of three (3) years die making and repair experience, including modifications and design changes. Skills: * Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to efficiently utilize the MSOffice Suite of programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Access and Power Point). Ability to demonstrated good mechanical abilities, including hand tool use. Experience in operating machines such as lathes, Radial Drill, and Welders (Tig, Mig Arc, and Gas) Communication: * Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: * Associates are required to work in a typical manufacturing production environment where the temperature is controlled throughout the year, but may occasionally be warmer or cooler than individual preferences. Associates are required to work an 8-hour day (not including overtime or other factors affecting the production schedule). Associates are required to wear personal protective equipment, which includes, uniform and safety shoes (when going into the production area bump cap, safety glasses, earplugs, sleeves and gloves).
