Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Conduct intake screening on all new offenders transferred to facility within 72 hours of arrival
- Act on an on-call basis in order to respond to unexpected and urgent medical situations. When unavailable to act on an on-call basis and/or taking extended leave (i.e. vacation), must arrange for a qualified replacement to act on an on-call basis.
- Schedule medical and dental appointments. With assistance of Warden, coordinate transportation to/from appointments. If unavailable for scheduling/transportation, Warden or designee will arrange offender to be transported for clinic appointment. If nurse was unavailable for scheduling/transportation, obtain updates on appointments from the Warden or appropriate company designee.
- Order medications, as prescribed, following medical/dental appointments
- Validate and organize medications for dispensing
- Monitor MAR (Medication Administration Record) for offender medication compliance
- Provide Medical Compliance Form to offenders taking medications. Form to include inmate and appropriate company representative signatures.
- Maintain accurate medical records, reports and other related documentation for all offenders
- Order appropriate diets for offenders with special needs, including food allergies, low sodium and/or diabetic meal trays
- Conduct blood pressure checks for offenders with hypertension as needed or a minimum of every month
- Monitor capillary blood glucose levels on diabetic offenders as needed or at a minimum of every week. Offender must record glucose levels on back of MAR (Medication Administration Record).
- Monitor and conduct monthly Tuberculosis screenings to insure all offenders screened once annually
- Monitor and conduct annually Tuberculosis screenings for staff at each facility
- Maintain syringe inventory daily
- Maintain refrigerator temperature log on daily basis
- Prepare monthly report on the number of medical, dental, vision and ER visits for all offenders
- Prepare monthly report on number of Tuberculosis screens performed and total prescriptions received for the month
License, Education, Experience
Must be a licensed nurse.
Employee is required to maintain professional license(s) by completing appropriate training, continuing education, etc.
Physical Demands :
Lifting from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; Standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling , crouching/squatting; Lifting or moving offenders.
