Job Overview: The Lab Director and Toxicologist is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a toxicology laboratory and leading scientific research and analysis related to the effects of toxic substances on living organisms. This role requires a strong background in toxicology, excellent leadership and management skills, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality research standards.
Key Responsibilities:
· Laboratory Management:
· Develop and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and safety protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
· Supervise laboratory staff, including scientists, technicians, and support personnel, and provide training and guidance as needed.
· Manage laboratory budgets, resource allocation, and procurement of equipment and supplies.
· Ensure the maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment.
· Toxicological Research:
· Conduct and oversee toxicological studies, experiments, and analyses to assess the impact of various substances on biological systems.
· Design and execute experiments to evaluate the toxicity, bioavailability, and mechanisms of action of chemical compounds.
· Analyze and interpret research data, prepare reports, and communicate findings to stakeholders.
· Stay current with advancements in toxicological research and apply new methodologies and technologies to research projects.
Regulatory Compliance:
· Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing toxicology research and laboratory operations.
· Maintain accurate records and documentation of research activities for regulatory reporting purposes.
· Quality Assurance:
· Establish and maintain a quality assurance program to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
· Implement and monitor quality control measures to validate test methods and equipment performance.
· Collaboration and Communication:
· Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as government agencies, clients, and research partners, to exchange information and coordinate research projects.
· Present research findings at conferences, seminars, and scientific meetings.
· Communicate effectively with staff, providing leadership, guidance, and mentorship.
Qualifications:
· Relevant experience in toxicology research, including experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation.
· Required experience in laboratories with CLIA compliance.
· Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role in a laboratory setting.
· Strong knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Strong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Preferred Ph.D. in Toxicology, Pharmacology, or a related field.
Minimum requirement of a BS in Chemistry with LCMS experience require.
· Certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) or a similar credential.
· Familiarity with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and analytical techniques.
· Experience with independent reference lab with a Toxicology staffed with a PhD and LC/MS instrumentation.
