    Job Description

    The lab technician is responsible for completing a wide variety of engineering qualification tests. This can include new product development testing, reliability/life testing, field issue testing, controls validation, product/food testing, and regulatory testing. Additionally, the lab technician will be responsible for gathering and recording the necessary data and providing it to the requester. The Lab technician reports to the engineering manager, steam/combi, and is responsible for all testing on the Vulcan Steam & Combi product lines.

    Responsibilities:

    • As planned by the engineering manager, take test requests from engineering, and work to complete.
    • As part of the test process, will setup unit, test equipment, environment, food product, and other equipment/items as needed to run test.
    • Will run many different types of experiments in order to gather information and data related to equipment performance.
    • Running consistent tests each and every time in order to minimize variance and keep results at a high level.
    • Operates test equipment per the supplier’s recommendations to generate the test data/results required.
    • Work on several different test requests concurrently, and drive each to a rapid completion.
    • Discuss test setup and results with the engineer/test requester.
    • Other lab duties, including equipment calibration, maintenance of supplies, lab organization, and lab cleanliness.
    • Conduct code compliance testing for new and existing products including UL, Energy Star and state level submissions and maintain required documentation.
    • Promotes, supports, and follows all ITW safety programs and initiatives.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Experience:
    Minimum of Associate's Degree in a technical program preferred, OR 5 or more years of related experience in a commercial or industrial food service equipment manufacturing environment.

    Skills / Ability:

    • Highly skilled in using hand tools, tool selection, and working ‘hands on’.
    • Ability to disassemble and reassemble units for purposes of test preparation and setup.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and find issues with a unit or test equipment.
    • Experience with PC integrated lab instruments and tools.
    • Experience with mechanical and electrical subassemblies.
    • Ability to monitor tests with an eye to detail and consistency.
    • Computer literate, with experience with MS Office applications.
    • General electrical and schematic reading knowledge.
    • Strong communication, organizational, and investigative skills.
    • Ability to multitask and drive all assignments to completion.
    • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn new equipment and skills.
    • Team player that supports co-workers and other internal customers.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Will be working in a lab environment
    • Travel approximately 10% of the time.
    • Based in Troy, OH
