We are seeking an operations professional who is well versed in working in a collaborative environment and has the ability to execute the daily operations of our lab and business operations to enhance the growth of Zag’s infrastructure to provide a safe, efficient, and productive environment for our scientific team. This role will require a high degree of collaboration between colleagues in the scientific development teams as well as in the business operations team.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will report to the Director of Business Operations and dually support the scientific and business operations of the company.
Scientific operations responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day lab operations, including ordering, receiving, and maintaining inventory of lab supplies and equipment. Serve as the main POC with SmartLabs for both equipment and needs within Zag’s private lab suite as well as for access to shared equipment and resources provided by SmartLabs.
Ensure the laboratory complies with all safety, regulatory, and environmental guidelines. Serve as the lead point of contact for Smart Labs EHS and external safety partners.
Oversee equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting, coordinating with vendors as needed.
Assist with onboarding and training new lab personnel on safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Ensuring trainings for all team members are kept up to date and do not lapse.
Develop and maintain laboratory documentation, including SOPs, inventory records(including chemical and reagent inventories), and safety data sheets (SDS).
Act as the primary point of contact for facility-related issues and coordinate with building management as needed.
Track cell line and protein inventories.
Monitor lab purchasing and contribute to cost control efforts without compromising operational quality.
Business operations responsibilities:
Support IT initiatives and goals by managing projects and collaborating with external vendors and internal team members.
Support software roll-outs by creating implementation plans, working with vendors, and integrating Zag info, as needed.
Work with business and scientific teams to streamline operations and implement solutions that increase efficiency and output.
Facilitate review of agreements between Zag and external partners and maintenance of records.
Work alongside procurement partner to establish new vendors for Zag and troubleshoot issues with orders.
Manage asset inventories, including non-capital lab equipment, capital assets, and IT equipment inventory.
Onboard and train new personnel in systems and processes relevant to their role, including keeping our training materials up to date.
Manage team activity calendar, including weekly “Lunch and Learns” and company-wide affiliation events.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
3+ years of experience managing a research lab or similar setting as well as experience in business or administrative operations; biotech setting preferred.
Strong knowledge of laboratory safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset.
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and dynamic cross-functional environment.
Preferred experience:
Hands on laboratory research experience
Using inventory tracking software or Lab Information Management System (LIMS)
The leveling of this position will be commensurate with experience.
