    POSITION PURPOSE

    The Laboratory Technician at Bayport Laboratories participates in the Research and Development of new formulas under the supervision of Senior Chemists and Research and Development Director. It is the responsibility of Laboratory technician to ensure that products comply with specifications by performing necessary testing and stability and compatibility studies.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

    Performs testing on raw materials, components, in-process, and finished product as needed

    Assists chemists in preparation of formulations and evaluating stability of batches to meet product standards and specifications as needed

    Perform testing on laboratory equipment as needed

    Assist with stability monitoring practices and procedures

    Calculates amounts of ingredients needed for various laboratory batch requirements

    Weighs raw materials as determined by formula requirements for batch preparation

    Combines and processes weighed ingredients, observing batch throughout manufacturing process. Records all notable characteristics. Introduces color adjustments as required

    Conducts physical tests on batch samples to insure product adheres to pre-determined specifications

    Maintains accurate and detailed records and logs of all work performed by following good documentation practices

    Demonstrates knowledge of and performance within acceptable laboratory safety standards

    Keeps laboratory organized to promote a safe and positive work environment

    PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

    Yearly reviews to access success and need for improvement

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/Certification:

    AS/BS Degree in Chemistry, Science or Biology or high school degree with relative math, science or laboratory skills, or work experience in a laboratory or manufacturing cosmetics/personal care products.

    Required Knowledge:

    Experience in laboratory testing preferred

    Requires ability to organize and prioritize jobs to meet schedule demands

    Previous chemistry experience helpful

    Ability to distinguish colors required

    Knowledge of metric weights and measures required

    Experience Required:

    1 year experience in a laboratory or manufacturing cosmetics/personal care products preferred.
