JOB SUMMARY
The laboratory technician is responsible for performing a variety of medical laboratory tests and analysis to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Works independently in performing standard laboratory tests and is responsible for maintaining a safe physical environment and the required equipment/instruments/supplies.
Reports To: Laboratory Manager Classification: Non-exempt
QUALIFICATIONS
Degree from accredited college and completion of an accredited Medical Technology Program.
Must be currently registered or eligible for registration as a Medical Technologist of Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
Two years of pervious phlebotomy and skin puncture experience on patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatric and analytical specimen processing experience in a hospital clinical laboratory.
Experience working in a chemical laboratory or some familiarity with analytical chemistry is a plus, but not mandatory.
Flexibility in work arrangements, you may be asked to perform the same task for an extended period of time or to perform different asks on the same day.
Ability to work with other people at the laboratory bench.
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.
RESPONSIBILITIES Draws blood, as appropriate for order tests, samples.
Prepare samples for analysis or referral to maintain specimen integrity.
Monitor procedures and tests in the lab, performing testing and evaluating results.
Ensures patient test results are completed within expected time.
Follow all current laboratory policies and procedures to comply with state, federal and CLIA regulations.
Participation in quality improvement activities and adheres to all quality assurance policies and procedures.
Perform troubleshooting as needed.
Demonstrate concern for each patient as a person.
Comply with facility Standards of Behavior and complete all required education assignments within the designated timeline.
