    Iris Scientific is a specialty recruitment agency laser focused on sales, marketing, and applications roles in the North American Scientific Instrumentation Industry.  We are working with a world class scientific instrumentation manufacturer to find a Research & Development Scientist for Advanced Lasers. The position is to be based out of Rochester, NY, and a relocation package will be provided if needed. 

    The company is targeting new grads with a MS or PhD in optics or physics. The successful candidate will also have significant hands on experience with: advanced research grade lasers,  optical techniques, electronics, and ideally with photonic integrated circuits.  Outstanding communication skills, and a positive team-based attitude are also a must. 

    Reporting to R&D management, the Laser Research and Development Scientist will be responsible for a wide range of activities related to existing and future product lines developed and manufactured by the US production team.  There is a special focus on photonic integrated circuits and optical paramentric oscillators.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Contributing to the design and specification of products from research and development stage to engineering plan stage to product manufacturability
    • Ensuring that the products conform to high standards of performance, quality, and reliability
    • Building and characterizing early prototypes
    • Specifying and outfitting dedicated manufacturing space with all necessary workstations, fixturing, and instrumentation for successful creation

    Qualifications: 

    • Master’s degree in physics, Optics, or other relevant scientific discipline; Ph.D. preferred
    • Unrestricted right to work in the United States (US Citizen)
    • Significant, demonstrable experience and skill in hands-on work with lasers and optical techniques
    • Experience with optical parametric oscillators and/or integrated photonics, preferred
    • Skills in electronics and/or software for controls and analysis, preferred
    • Strong ability to communicate complex topics
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills
    • Goal oriented, structured, and task focused
    • Independent and self-starting
    • Must be fully fluent in English
  • Compensation
    $95,000 per year
