Job Title: Lead Custodian
Full-time staff (260 days paid over 12 months)
Department: Facilities Management
Reports To: Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds
A Lead Custodian should highlight strong leadership skills, experience in managing a custodial team, proficiency in cleaning procedures, equipment operation, and ensuring compliance with safety standards, while also including responsibilities like scheduling, training staff, inventory management, and overseeing daily cleaning operations within a facility. The Lead Custodian is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily cleaning operations of a designated facility, ensuring all areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness by leading and supervising a team of custodians while adhering to safety protocols and established cleaning procedures.
Key Responsibilities and Duties :
Assign cleaning tasks to custodial staff based on workload and priorities.
Train new custodial staff on proper cleaning techniques, safety procedures, and equipment usage.
·Monitor staff performance and provide feedback and coaching to ensure quality standards are met.
Address any performance issues and implement disciplinary actions when necessary.
Team Leadership
Cleaning Operations:
Develop and implement cleaning schedules for all areas of the facility.
Conduct regular inspections of assigned areas to identify cleaning needs and ensure compliance with standards.
Perform deep cleaning tasks as required, including floor stripping, waxing, carpet cleaning, and window washing.
Oversee the proper use and maintenance of cleaning equipment and supplies.
Inventory Management:
Monitor cleaning supply inventory levels and place orders with vendors to maintain adequate stock.
Ensure proper storage and rotation of cleaning chemicals to maintain effectiveness and safety.
Safety and Compliance:
Enforce all safety guidelines and procedures related to cleaning chemicals and equipment operation.
Report any safety concerns or hazards to the Facilities Manager immediately.
Conduct regular safety training sessions for custodial staff.
Communication and Reporting:
Maintain open communication with the Facilities Manager regarding cleaning needs, staff issues, and any facility maintenance concerns.
Prepare and submit cleaning reports as required, documenting completed tasks and any outstanding issues.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a custodial role, with demonstrated leadership abilities
Knowledge of cleaning procedures, chemicals, and equipment
Ability to operate heavy cleaning equipment safely and effectively
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move heavy objects
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods
Ability to work in various weather conditions (if applicable)
Faculty: Must be willing and able to secure an Ohio Permanent Non-Tax certificate or Professional Teaching license. The school will support you in obtaining this once hired. However, it must be secured within the first six months of employment for compliance purposes.
