    Our client, a leading global plastic injection molding manufacturer, is seeking a Lead Mold Maker at its established manufacturing site outside of Aurora, Illinois. The company offers comprehensive solutions, including design, engineering, manufacturing, and assembly, serving industries such as automotive, electronics, and medical. 

    The company is seeking a responsible Lead Mold Maker to oversee the maintenance of all production and prototype tooling, ensuring seamless production in their plastics manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in injection molding plastics. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.

    Responsibilities and Functions:

    As a Lead Mold Maker, you will oversee the tool room operations and ensure the efficiency, safety, and longevity of tooling and equipment. Your key responsibilities include:

    • Team Leadership & Collaboration: Lead and mentor a skilled team in a "One Team, One Mission" culture. Work collaboratively with production and support teams to ensure maximum uptime of molding machines and address tooling-related issues effectively.
    • Tooling Maintenance & Optimization: Manage the preventative maintenance (PM) program for all tooling, including routine inspections, timely repairs, and necessary modifications to improve production performance and reduce maintenance time.
    • Facility & Safety Oversight: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe tool maintenance area, ensuring compliance with safety standards and company policies. Foster a safe working environment by promoting safe practices throughout the facility.
    • Continuous Improvement & Efficiency: Drive continuous improvement initiatives using 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles, while recommending and implementing tooling enhancements to optimize efficiency.
    • Contractor & Documentation Management: Coordinate with both on-site and external contractors for specialized tooling projects. Maintain detailed documentation of all preventative maintenance activities to ensure compliance and operational transparency.

    This role requires hands-on involvement, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to driving operational excellence in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

    Qualifications:

    • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of tool prints, electronics, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems as they relate to tooling, along with the ability to work with a variety of maintenance equipment.
    • Hands-On Skills: Proficiency in disassembling and reassembling complex tools, with experience in tool maintenance functions within the plastics industry.
    • Physical Capability: Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds as part of regular job duties.
    • Educational & Industry Background: GED required, with at least 3+ years of experience in the plastics industry focusing on tool maintenance or related functions.
    • Basic Math Skills: Competence in basic math operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
