    Salary: The salary range is $74,082 - $128,203. Starting salary is based on professional work experience, qualifications, and related legislative/government experience.

    Telework: This position works on-site in the Minnesota Senate Building and Capitol during the legislative session. When the legislature is not in session, flexible hybrid options may be available.

    Days of Work/Hours: Monday-Friday/8am-5pm. This position requires long and irregular hours and the ability to meet tight deadlines during the legislative session, including evening and weekend work. Additional paid time off will be available.

    Position Summary

    As a Leadership Advisor you will play a key role in advancing the Majority Leader's and Majority Caucus' agenda by assisting the Majority Leader and the Majority Caucus in the development of legislation and legislative strategy. In this role you will assist in the crafting of effective policies and shepherd legislation through the process to achieve meaningful outcomes for Minnesotans. You will work directly for the Majority Leader, the Chief of Staff and the Senior Leadership Advisor. You will work alongside other members of the Senate, caucus staff, non-partisan research and counsel and a wide variety of stakeholders. You will be responsible for understanding the policy issues facing the Minnesota Senate and identifying strengths, weaknesses and opportunities in related legislation, along with the actions taken by committees in the Senate and in the House, agency positions, positions of interested parties, and media coverage. In this position you will serve as a member of the Majority Leader's leadership team and manage the Majority's appointments to boards, commissions and councils.

    To be successful in this position you will need to have a thorough understanding of the legislative process, the complexities and hurdles of how legislation moves through the Minnesota Senate, and an ability to navigate the political structure at the Minnesota Senate. You need the ability and desire to learn about many different issue areas quickly and sometimes under stressful and time sensitive situations.

    This position requires you to be able to anticipate the needs of members and be able to answer their questions accurately and succinctly. You need to have strong interpersonal skills to navigate between competing interests to facilitate compromises and cooperation among elected officials and stakeholders. You must understand your role is to assist the Majority Leader and other majority members in moving their agenda and not your own personal beliefs.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Business Administration, or related area of study.
    OR
    Three (3) years of relevant experience working with the Legislature, other Legislative bodies, State Government, or a related field that provides a practical knowledge of the principles of the legislative process.

    AND
    Experience coordinating or leading projects, teams/committees, and events.
    In addition to the qualifications listed above, applicants must demonstrate:

    Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Business Administration, or related area of study.
    OR
    Three (3) years of relevant experience working with the Legislature, other Legislative bodies, State Government, or a related field that provides a practical knowledge of the principles of the legislative process.

    AND
    Experience coordinating or leading projects, teams/committees, and events.
    In addition to the qualifications listed above, applicants must demonstrate: Strong communication skills, both interpersonal and written.
