Job Title: Legal Assistant – Family Law
Location: Greenville/Spartanburg, SC
Job Type: Full-time
Reports To: Head Paralegal/Attorney
Job Summary:
The Legal Assistant will provide administrative and legal support to attorneys handling family law cases, including divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, and other domestic relations matters. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Support:
Prepare, draft, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, motions, affidavits, and discovery requests/responses.
Assist attorneys in filing legal documents with courts and ensure compliance with court rules.
Maintain and organize case files, both physical and electronic, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date.
Conduct legal research as needed and summarize findings for attorneys.
Coordinate and schedule hearings, mediations, depositions, and client meetings.
Assist in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, witness lists, and court filings.
Client & Administrative Support:
Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, providing updates and gathering necessary information.
Maintain client confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
Draft correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
Manage attorney calendars, deadlines, and case-related reminders.
Process and organize incoming mail, emails, and case-related correspondence.
Coordinate billing and invoicing for legal services, including tracking billable hours.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Associate’s degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent experience in a legal setting.
Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years in a legal assistant or paralegal role, preferably in family law.
Skills:
* Strong knowledge of family law procedures and court rules.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, case management software, and e-filing systems.
* Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a legal team.
* Attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with legal case management software (Clio).
Familiarity with South Carolina family law.
Bilingual abilities (Spanish preferred but not required).
