    Job Description

    The general liability defense legal assistant enhances attorneys’ effectiveness by developing case information, evidence, and settlement options; tracking cases; supporting attorney's trial proceedings. This position will support multiple attorneys with the preparation of documents for general liability cases in our Chicago office.

    Job Functions:

    • Transcribing dictation
    • Assists litigation attorneys by preparing correspondence, pleadings, discovery and other legal documents.
    • Prepare documents for filing and production.
    • Electronic filing via Odyssey and PACER
    • Keeps cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software.
    • Enhance trial proceedings by organizing evidence; preparing exhibits; scheduling witnesses; ensuring that witnesses are ready when needed.
    • Helps develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; scheduling depositions; preparing and forwarding summons and subpoenas; requesting medical records, filing discovery requests such as interrogatories, request to produce, Rule 237 and various court pleadings such as Answers to Complaints, Motion to Dismiss, Motion for Summary Judgement.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent) required.
    • 3+ years of legal support experience in a law firm.
    • 70 WPM preferred
    • Working knowledge of court rules and procedures.
    • Microsoft Word experience required; Excel and PowerPoint experience preferred.
    • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
    • Must be self-motivated and able to meet deadlines under pressure.
    • Firm and Client Confidentiality required.
