  • Responsibilities

    Responsibilities

    • Communicating in a professional manner with all existing and potential clients.

    • Scheduling new court dates, deadlines, and client meetings in firm calendar to assure that attorneys' calendars are accurately maintained and organized

    • Noticing depositions and scheduling court reporters/videographers

    • Interacting with the courts and administrative agencies regarding hearings, motions, and other appearances

    • Preparing and sending legal correspondence as directed by attorneys

    • Organizing case files (i.e. electronic and manual)

    • Drafting letters to the District Attorney or City Attorney's office for informal requests for discovery.

    • Requesting discovery from various law enforcement offices and agencies

    • Picking up media discovery from various prosecutorial offices in San Diego county

    • Preparing subpoenas, substitution of attorney forms, assisting attorneys in filing and preparing exhibits for motions, drafting case memorandums to assist attorneys in preparation of cases, etc

    • Undertake other duties as needed to ensure the firm operates efficiently

    • Take care of administrative tasks and office correspondence by answering phone calls and emails, communicating with opposing attorney offices, taking dictation, and informing the team of upcoming deadlines

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 1 year of prior experience in a law firm environment as a legal assistant working in criminal law, civil litigation or family law

    • Must be able to prioritize tasks with demanding deadlines and work well with others in a fast-paced environment

    • Must be extremely detail-oriented and apply critical thinking skills

    • Proficient with MS Office Suite, including spreadsheets, and case management software

    • Exhibit a strong work ethic with high standards for reliability, and quality of work

    • Must be able to prioritize and multitask various daily tasks

    • Must be punctual, reliable, and have good attendance

    • Have excellent spelling, typing, and grammar skills

    • Must have excellent communication skills in both oral and written form, and interpersonal skills.

    • Display a positive and team-focused attitude

    • Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred but not required

    • Some knowledge of legal software, case management, and docketing programs

    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines with quick turnaround times

    • Must be able to type at least 50 WPM
