We are looking for an experienced legal assistant who can help the busy attorneys and paralegals at our law office assist our clients. You’ll be responsible for managing office correspondence, including answering phone calls and emails, arranging meetings and travel, and ensuring our legal team is aware of upcoming deadlines. You’ll also assist with preparing legal documents and contracts, and perform any other tasks as needed to ensure our firm is operating efficiently. Responsibilities: • Undertake other duties as needed to ensure the firm operates efficiently • Take care of administrative tasks and office correspondence by answering phone calls and emails, communicating with opposing attorney offices, taking dictation, and informing the team of upcoming deadlines • Communicating in a professional manner with all existing and potential clients. • Scheduling new court dates, deadlines, and client meetings in firm calendar to assure that attorneys’ calendars are accurately maintained and organized • Noticing depositions and scheduling court reporters/videographers • Interacting with the courts and administrative agencies regarding hearings, motions, and other appearances • Preparing and sending legal correspondence as directed by attorneys • Organizing case files (i.e. electronic and manual) • Drafting letters to the District Attorney or City Attorney’s office for informal requests for discovery. • Requesting discovery from various law enforcement offices and agencies • Picking up media discovery from various prosecutorial offices in San Diego county • Preparing subpoenas, substitution of attorney forms, assisting attorneys in filing and preparing exhibits for motions, drafting case memorandums to assist attorneys in preparation of cases, etc Qualifications: • Some knowledge of legal software, case management, and docketing programs • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines with quick turnaround times • Must be able to type at least 50 WPM • Minimum 1 year of prior experience in a law firm environment as a legal assistant working in criminal law, civil litigation or family law • Must be able to prioritize tasks with demanding deadlines and work well with others in a fast-paced environment • Must be extremely detail-oriented and apply critical thinking skills • Proficient with MS Office Suite, including spreadsheets, and case management software • Exhibit a strong work ethic with high standards for reliability, and quality of work • Must be able to prioritize and multitask various daily tasks • Must be punctual, reliable, and have good attendance • Have excellent spelling, typing, and grammar skills • Must have excellent communication skills in both oral and written form, and interpersonal skills. • Display a positive and team-focused attitude • Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred but not required Compensation: $25 - $27 hourly
