We are currently seeking a highly reliable and detail-oriented legal assistant to join our team. Our office suite consists of a criminal defense law and personal injury law firm. You will be assisting both attorneys. The legal assistant role is crucial to the success of clients and the day-to-day functioning of both law firms. What success looks like in this role: • Being reliable, responsible and trustworthy; • Being detail-oriented and organized; • Accepting and implementing corrective constructive guidance; • Taking Initiative and catching potential problems early. Pay and Benefits: For the initial four-month probationary period, pay will be an hourly salary ranging from $18-$22/hr., based solely on an individual's prior length of employment in a legal assistant/paralegal position and the recency of such employment. If you do not have any prior legal assistant/paralegal experience, the starting pay is $18/hr. If you have extensive and recent legal assistant/paralegal experience (more than 3+ years), the starting probationary pay is $22/hr. After the four-month probationary period, pay is increased based on performance and converted from hourly to salary and we offer health, vision, and dental insurance, and a 401(k) retirement plan. Responsibilities: • Calendar Management: Accurately enter and confirm all court dates, deadlines, client meetings, and attorney obligations. No court date can be missed or improperly entered. • Case Management: Open new files, maintain case updates in the case management system, and ensure documents are properly categorized and named. • Document Preparation: Draft and format basic legal documents, letters, and motions. Ensure accuracy and consistency in formatting. • Court Coordination: File documents (e-filing or in person as needed), confirm court dates with clerks, and prepare physical or digital case files for hearings. • Follow-up: Track discovery, court orders, and compliance deadlines. Set reminders and follow through. • Frequent communication with clients, court staff, and judicial personnel. • Other tasks as assigned by the attorney. Qualifications: • Must be able to type at least 50 WPM • 1+ year legal assistant or paralegal experience preferred. • Strong attention to detail - you double-check everything, especially pleadings, calendars, and court information. • Proficient in case management software (Filevine). • Interest in criminal defense and/or personal injury law preferred. • Ability to manage multiple tasks under time pressure without dropping the ball. • Excellent written and verbal communication. • Punctuality and reliability are non-negotiable. • Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities. • Professionalism with clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel.
