Position Overview:
We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Lien Specialist to join our team at the Illinois Hammer Injury Law Firm. As a Lien Specialist, you will play a critical role in managing the lien resolution process for our cases, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of liens in accordance with legal requirements. Your responsibilities will include obtaining settlement releases, drafting and forwarding release of lien proposals to lien holders, negotiating with health insurance companies and other entities for lien reductions or removals, and providing clear communication to clients throughout the settlement process.
Responsibilities:
1. Settlement Release Management: Obtain settlement releases and save them to the file for each case.
2. Release of Lien Proposals: Draft and forward release of lien proposals to lien holders in accordance with the Lien Act.
3. Lien Negotiation: Contact health insurance companies for final liens, lien reductions, or removal of unrelated treatment, negotiating favorable outcomes for our clients.
4. Client Communication: Provide ongoing communication to clients throughout the settlement process, keeping them informed of progress and next steps.
5. Document Organization: Organize and save all proposals to the file, ensuring accurate record-keeping and easy accessibility.
6. Follow-Up: Follow up on unreceived proposals or counteroffers from lien holders, ensuring timely resolution.
7. Loan and Child Support Liaison: Reach out to loan companies for final payoffs on cases and child support agencies to negotiate final liens, if applicable.
8. Deadline Management: Keep tabs on upcoming statutes of limitations (SOLs) and send releases to clients early if close to SOL date.
9. Settlement Statement Drafting: Draft settlement statements and task attorneys for final review.
10. Client Signature Assistance: Forward settlement statements and releases to clients for signature, assisting with signing as needed.
11. Document Management: Organize and save settlement documents to the file, sign off as a witness as necessary, and notarize when required.
12. Settlement Check Follow-Up: Forward releases to adjusters/opposing counsel with hold harmless language (IL cases only) and request settlement checks, following up until scanned into the file.
Qualifications:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Experience in multitasking and working in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong time management skills.
• Prior legal experience, specifically in lien negotiation and settlement.
• Knowledge of lien resolution processes and legal requirements.
Schedule:
• Hybrid/Remote
• Monday-Friday 9am-5pm CST
• 30 minute paid lunch
Pay Range:
• $23.00/hourly
