General Purpose
Responsible for the safety and supervision of patrons at the Moab Recreation and Aquatic Center.
Reporting Relationships
Supervision Received: The Lifeguard works under the general supervision of the Aquatics Manager and Assistant Aquatics Manager

Essential Functions
Lifeguards must be able to perform all the essential tasks required by the position, including but not limited to:
Supervise the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe conditions and behavior:
- Strictly and tactfully enforce rules, regulations, policies, and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons using the Facility
- Respond to accidents or situations in or out of the water and provide first aid, CPR, and other assistance as necessary
- Participate in the record keeping of accidents and rescues
- Help keep the Aquatic Center clean and uncluttered
- Help maintain pool areas by putting in/taking out lane lines, cleaning decks, covering and uncovering the pools, and removing all unnecessary equipment from the pool areas
- Report unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner
Assume responsibility for maintaining positive relations with patrons:
- Always conduct oneself in a professional manner and be dressed in proper uniform
- Assist and support patrons in a positive and productive manner
- Respond to questions and/or concerns of patrons in a prompt fashion
- Handle rule violators tactfully
Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relations with personnel and management
- Attend all staff meetings and in-service training sessions
- Assist other lifeguards and area personnel as necessary
- Stay aware of other lifeguard chairs and areas of responsibility
- Provide input for Aquatic area planning
- Discuss areas of concern with appropriate personnel

Education and Experience
- Must be at least 15 years of age
- Must hold current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Standard First Aid and CPR
- Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and patrons
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Various shifts, including early mornings, mid-day, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Work occurs in variable weather conditions including warm weather, water, and prolonged exposure to sunlight
- Tasks may entail muscular strain, including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting and swimming
- Talking, hearing and seeing are essential to performing job requirements. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity is required for most essential functions
Selection Guidelines
A formal application is required; finalists will interview with the appropriate hiring authority. Applicant must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
