    Job Description

    NBC Sports is seeking a Live Event Broadcast Engineer to join our Remote Technical Operations and Engineering (RTOE) Department. The Live Event Broadcast Engineer will be responsible for providing technical broadcast engineering support specifically for live sporting events, ensuring seamless connectivity and integration with the NBC Sports Broadcast Center. The role includes deployment, maintenance, and technical troubleshooting of broadcast equipment and systems during live events, managing both NBC Sports owned equipment and third-party vendor systems.

    _ Responsibilities:_

    • Provide front-line engineering support specifically tailored to live television productions, ensuring flawless connectivity and integration with the NBC Sports Broadcast Center.
    • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair broadcast equipment, including audio consoles, video switchers, intercom systems, encoders/decoders, and associated live broadcast and networking equipment.
    • Coordinate and collaborate with external vendors to ensure successful integration and operation of third-party broadcast systems with NBC Sports equipment during live events.
    • Deploy and operate live broadcast flypacks, mobile systems, and associated technical infrastructure.
    • Maintain accurate records using internal software systems for tracking inventory, asset management, and procurement.
    • Assist as needed with preparation and maintenance of Electronic News Gathering (ENG) equipment.
    • Assist occasionally in live editing, transcoding, and file-based workflows.
    • Work closely with logistics, production, and operations teams to plan, execute, and support live broadcast events effectively.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Minimum 5 years of experience in live or mobile broadcast engineering.
    • Extensive knowledge of live broadcast production equipment, including audio consoles, video switchers, intercom systems, wireless audio and video, fiber optics, and networking infrastructure.
    • Familiarity with IP-based live production workflows and standards, such as SMPTE ST-2110, AES67, Dante, and NDI.
    • Proficiency with video encoding and decoding systems (MPEG, JPEG-XS, H.264, HEVC).
    • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for complex broadcast and networking systems.
    • Ability to occasionally support editing platforms (Adobe Premiere, Avid Media Composer) and file-based workflows.

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective coordination and documentation.
    • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in dynamic, high-pressure environments.
    • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, with extensive travel.
    • Capability to physically handle and transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
    • System Design, AutoCAD, and Project Management experience.
    • Television production and workflow experience.
