    JOB SUMMARY

    The Infrastructure Telecommunication Design Technician (ITD Tech) usually works under the direction of a Supervising Telecommunications Systems Engineer or user agency personnel and manages or oversees all aspects of one or more IT telecommunications projects while interacting with mid-level officials of similar capacity at the user agency and/or private sector.

    The ITD Tech provides technical direction and implementation of small to medium size telecommunications projects. They will coordinate project tasks, customer relations, permit acquisition, concept development and assessment, construction coordination, and contract closeout with project team members, customers, and vendors.

    The ITD Tech will review architectural engineering drawings and construction documents to ensure telecommunications and low-voltage system requirements are correctly incorporated in the construction drawings and packages, including industry standard symbols and legends to all drawings. They will design, create & modify detailed telecommunications floor plans with various low voltage systems such as: voice/data wiring, electrical outlets, access control/card readers, intrusion alarms, security cameras, wireless and main communications and intermediate distribution frame rooms utilizing the AutoCAD & Visio drawing software.

     

    Skills Required:

    The ITD Tech will possess the knowledge and skills in customer service; decision making; flexibility; interpersonal skills; leadership; organizational awareness; problem solving, reasoning; team building; oral communication, speaking and writing; capital planning, information management; information resources strategy and planning; information technology architecture; information technology performance assessment; infrastructure design; systems integration; systems life cycle; and technology awareness.

    Work Experience Required: This classification requires a minimum of five (5) years of broad, extensive, and increasingly responsible experience with reading and creating architectural engineering low voltage plans. At least three (3) years of that experience must have been in a lead capacity. Two (2) years working knowledge of the infrastructure design of low voltage systems.

     

    Work Experience Preferred:

    BICSI Certification

     

    Education/Training Required: This classification requires the possession of (a) a bachelor’s degree in an IT-related or Engineering field, and (b) certification in AutoCAD, which will be verified.

    Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. The AutoCAD certification is required and may not be substituted with additional experience.

     

    Education/Training Preferred:

    Requesting someone with a BICSI certification and AutoCAD that has infrastructure cabling design and drafting experience with Low Voltage systems.
