Job Overview

The Lumber Yard Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily operations in the lumber yard, ensuring that all activities are carried out efficiently and safely. This role involves supervising yard personnel, managing inventory, and collaborating closely with the Driver Supervisor to optimize performance and productivity. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with strong organizational skills and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Supervision: Direct and supervise all yard personnel, ensuring they adhere to established protocols and procedures.

· Safety: Implement and enforce safety guidelines to minimize accidents and injuries. Conduct regular safety inspections and training sessions.

· Efficiency: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency in the yard. Monitor and optimize workflow and resource utilization.

· Collaboration: Work closely with the Driver Supervisor to coordinate activities and ensure seamless operations. Foster a collaborative environment to drive team performance and efficiency.

· Inventory Management: Oversee the receipt, storage, and dispatch of lumber and other materials. Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure proper stock levels.

· Training and Development: Provide ongoing training and support to yard personnel, encouraging skill development and professional growth.

· Problem-Solving: Address and resolve any operational issues that arise in the yard. Develop and implement solutions to enhance overall yard performance.

· Reporting: Prepare and submit regular reports on yard activities, performance metrics, and safety incidents to upper management.

Qualifications

· Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role within a lumber yard or similar environment.

· Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices in a lumber yard setting.

· Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.

· Problem-Solving: Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges.

· Technical Skills: Proficiency in inventory management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

· Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials and working in varying weather conditions.

Working Conditions

The Lumber Yard Foreman will primarily work outdoors in a lumber yard environment. The role involves exposure to various weather conditions and requires the ability to perform physically strenuous tasks. Safety gear and equipment will be provided and must be worn at all times.
