Lutheran Towers is a faith-based, non-profit, senior community that provides an affordable, quality home with person-centered supportive services that empowers its residents to thrive. A vision of the late Dr. Robert E. Lee, Senior Pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in the 1970's, Lutheran Towers is the only faith-based senior living facility in Midtown Atlanta and the only one of its kind within the four-state area comprising the Southeastern Synod of the ELCA.
For almost five decades, Lutheran Towers has provided safe, secure, and affordable housing to almost 4,000 independent living seniors and is currently the home of approximately 200 residents of varied faiths, cultural backgrounds, and sexual orientations and/or identities. The majority of our residents are persons of color. We are a multilingual community. The average age of Lutheran Towers' residents is 75 and their median annual income is $12,600. Low-income seniors like these folks are not only vulnerable to homelessness. They often live with other risk factors such as chronic illness, less education, few material assets, and no support system. There is a critical need for safe, affordable housing for seniors that also gives them access to the services and care essential to achieving a healthy life. Cultivating an environment where our residents can successfully and happily, age in place is at the heart of what we do. Guided by this philosophy, we help to alleviate loneliness, helplessness, and boredom.
The Lutheran Towers' Board of Directors and professional staff understand the needs of seniors and, as a result, Lutheran Towers has evolved into more than just a place for seniors to live. Lutheran Towers also provides supportive services and wellness-oriented programming that promotes physical and mental health, independent living, and community involvement. Our recreational and supportive services are offered to residents free of charge and many would not have access to or be able to afford them outside Lutheran Towers.
Lutheran Towers, a 15-story high-rise located in the heart of Midtown, offers an affordable Midtown address for seniors on a fixed income. The Towers is conveniently located near a wonderful variety of shops, restaurants, parks, theaters, museums, medical centers, and places of worship. In 2018, Lutheran Towers' board of directors, staff, and residents for the first time in our almost 50-year history collaboratively developed a three-year Strategic Plan which places a great deal of our organization's focus on significantly enhancing our programs and services offerings for our Residents both in the day, evening, and weekend. Towards that end, we created several new staff positions including but not limited to the evening and weekend Concierge position(s). The Concierge ensures that residents receive a long-range of assistance and support after business hours and on the weekends when the staffing the building is at its lowest point. Within our organization, after business hours and on the weekends, this role is vital to the health and well-being of our senior community and the residents therein. In summary, the Concierge(s) are part of Lutheran Towers health and wellness initiatives.
